Did you also know that NOT speeding increases your metabolism, helps you burn fat faster, increases brain function, and can prevent 13 different types of cancer.
I'm sure thats what the government is going to tell us next. How stupid do they think we are? Anyone who believes their propaganda is just sadly gullable!
Like Mark Twain said (and many here have also mentioned) "there are 3 types of lies on this earth.....lies, damned lies and statistics"
And with an election imminent we are being inundated with all three!

With almost 100 speeding/traffic convictions to my name, I can hardly add an objective post to this most magnificent thread, other than saying that if speed really did kill, well I must have already died a thousand deaths.....

As you were.....

wouldn't that be almost 100 deaths? not a thousand..... :?

As far as speeding is concerned, I have no issue with the thin blue line throwing the book at dickheads attempting to hit warp factor 9 in residential areas (an R1 rider in Melbourne got caught at 200 in a 60!). I do however have issues with the lengths they will go to glean cash out of people who happen to edge a couple of KM above the stated limit.

As far as accidents are concerned, I would suggest most are caused by driver distraction and poor driver training.

There are still more deaths each year from each of the below than the Aussie road toll...
2008 figures

Underlying Cause of Death-------------------Total

Ischaemic heart diseases---------------------23,665
Strokes (I60-I69)-------------------------------11,973
Dementia and Alzheimer disease-------------8,171
Trachea and lung cancer-----------------------7,946
Chronic lower respiratory diseases-----------6,255
Diabetes-----------------------------------------4,191
Colon and rectum cancer-----------------------4,120
Blood and lymph cancer (+leukaemia)--------3,889
Heart failure------------------------------------3,360
Diseases of the kidney and urinary system--3,224
Prostate cancer---------------------------------3,031
Breast cancer------------------------------------2,788
Suicide-------------------------------------------2,190

Road Toll----------------------------------------1,402

Disease through smoking, drinking and poor diet accounted for approximately one-third of the overall fugure.

Really makes you feel like a cash cow doesn't it!

dont see many steak knifes that weigh 200+ kg on the roads travelling at 200+ kph, but if you cant handle a knife with your twinky little fingers without hurting yourself then maybe we should ban them
Yes ban everything bro..

Heres a thought, is it dangerous to fart while driving? I let off some rippers, and it can be a distraction !! You should have to slow to 30kph if ya wanna rip one off, or you could spear into a tarago and muder a family of 7.

Discuss...
Hoffy. Its bastards like you who are forcing the Government to introduce the carbon tax. Next time wind the f*&k'n windows up and gas yourself you sick f&*k.
And obviously 30 km per hour is way to fast for shit like that. Speeding is not just about the speed signs it is about the conditions that you are driving to. It is impossible to control a car at that kind of speed while emmitting toxic gassses from your colon. What would have happened at that speed if you had a shart or some other kind of follow through???? :kuda:
Remember, half the people you know are below average.

40% of Deaths?
So if 100 people are killed on the road, that's 40 that involved "killer" speed?
Well they issue 6,000,000 speeding fines a year.......
SO ACCORDING TO THEIR ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS THE ROAD TOLL SHOULD ACTUALLY BE "2.4 MILLION"

Well isn't this fun, statistics how to tell everyone you are wrong/ right.

In NSW 1/3 of all road deaths are actually pedestrians, no stats on how many are killed whilst walking on the foot path, but based on advertising campaigns one has to assume they are on the road primarily.

Now the government says speed is a contributing factor in 60% of accidents. They do not say that people are speeding over the speed limit per-say, they leave out that detail. The data is correct that 60% of accidents speed is a contributing factor, but if we define the definition of speed as traveling at a speed in excess of our abilitiy/ road conditions, not actually going above the speed limit thus how you come up with the "facts"

Now the above is completely true in that if you speed above your abilities/ conditions then the proverbial will hit the fan and if this was the argument then there would probably be less argument.

At the end of the day if we choose to speed in the same areas regularly, cause a higher rate of accidents per kilometres traveled than other roads well you have to expect the sirens to be there. I see no point in whinging about being booked for speeding. I have never been pulled over by police and booked for less than 15km over (have been let off a couple of times too). I have been booked by cameras for between 7 and 10km over in 60km zones. Cop it on the chin.

If you believe the police that they spend more money on speeding than other crimes, believe that people don't get booked for un-roadworthy, driving in a dangerous manner etc and make the uninformed claims well you are the same as someone who claims speeding kills

Who said that DUI is rare, it was rare but now with the roadside drug testing it is becoming more common, not as common as PCA (yet) but I suspect that may change.

So, you tow the anti-government line, call people who don't names, and offer nothing to the argument to support your side. Brilliant!

Yes Mike, but when was the last time you heard about someone dying of prostate cancer and taking out a school bus and killing 32 children? (Just had to go one step further than the Tarago :))

if all of the 6,000,000 speeding fines were involved fatal crashes then yes those numbers would be correct, but 6,000,000 speeding infringements does not equal 6,000,000 fatal crashes! :finga: :finga: :kuda:

Thats certainly not what the Gobmint would have us believe, this is their justification for booking every poor bastard for exceeding the speed
by 3 kph ;)
Hasn't this thread become a mainly "justify it" thread.......
