The really bad crosswinds experience for me was riding the ZZR250 over the Westgate bridge (for those non-Melbournians, our big bridge at the mouth of the Yarra, deck height 50 metres or so above water) when there was heavy rain and wind.

It felt like the tyres were struggling to retain grip, and I ...

Hey

re crosswinds - you're more likely to have trouble if you're trying to stabilise yourself with your arms (ie, grabbing the bars hard, tensing up your shoulders, etc.) Try pressing your knees hard against the bike, use your lower back (not your arms) to position your upper body and you'll find ...

I don't get how people don't see or react to the lights and bells (assuming the lights and bells are working, which I guess we don't know yet). Trains weigh hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tons, travel up to and over 100km/h, and can't swerve. So why rely on the train to take evasive action, when ...

Nice bike you got there, did it get fixed up afterwards?

Looks like you're planning on long term Kawasaki ownership, going by the investment in green coloured gear! :)

Ouch!

But hey, there was insurance, there was an ambulance (not a hearse!), and hopefully there'll be a full recovery.

Did the car driver even stop to assist?

Nice model GPX that, what with the twin front discs and integrated turn signals...

You might want to think about a new rear tyre as the weather gets wetter... the one in the pic seems a little low on tread!

Hrrrm only one glove stolen.

Are any of your co-workers or sales reps into Michael Jackson? Particularly his mid 80s one-glove-with-fingers-cut-off look?

I've got Dri-rider winter gloves which I've been pretty happy with. They seem to hold together well and are made out of pretty tough leather.

My ZZR250, which-has-never-been-dropped-touch-wood, does rattle a little on fast corrugations (eg riding at 50km/h on crap suburban roads with lots of undulations and potholes) but apart from that there's no rattles.

The noise I do hear seems to happen when plastic panel that fits between the ...

...and I'm wondering what you all wear to protect from getting saturated when commuting to/from work in the rain
Adelaide has rain?

I find full leathers do a reasonable job of keeping the rain out and without getting soaked so long as it's not raining too heavily and the commute is not too long ...

I don't mind paying high taxes, if it means that we get Medicare, decent old age pensions, enough uni and TAFE places, quality schools, etc.

I've been to Norway and Sweden where income taxes are crazy - I think the top marginal rate in Norway is 68%. Strangely enough, they're very nice countries ...

Re: PULP V ULP

If you run a high compression engine (most modern sportsbikes, including yours) you should run high-octane fuel because it burns slower and has less chance of detonation. Thus giving you less power but better fuel economy. If you have a lower compression engine you should run low octane fuel, as it ...
