Turns out it was an actuating pushrod-type thing within the clutch cover. The end of it sheared off so that it wasn't fully engaging. My local bike shop was eventually able to acquire a new one and install it so that it's good as new. Hopefully it will last another 100,000km.

Bought a custom-fit sheepskin for my Z750. More comfortable than the standard seat, but ended up buying a Corbin aftermarket seat. Unbelievable difference, though more expensive than an Airhawk.

My '07 model typically runs at about 84 degrees, hotter in the middle of summer. Temp has reached 108 in the M5 tunnel. Cold winter mornings will see the temp as low as 59. I don't know about '06 models, but Corbin offer rider and pillion seats for later Z1000's. I'm hoping to get one for my '07 Z750 sometime soon.
