I spent 800 on pistons rings valves rebore gaskets- a rebuild above the crank only, a few months ago.
Found a zzr motor at mwb wreckers for 700 yesterday. I'm not buying it now. There's a motor for auction on ebay too.

Thanks for posting guys.
I agree it is not a normal problem. The seats are not damaged, but the valve face is worn away.
We got onto some stainless valve blanks within spec, so we'll try that.

I accidentally posted this in zzr forum, and not getting far.
My 17yr old son bought a '96(?) blue black GPZ250. Within three week it slowly became impossible to start.

I doubt "upper cylinder lubricant" would make that much difference. With or without, 2000k is a very short life.
As far as I know valve seats are refaced originals.
I would not expect an honest answer about its history from the guy we bought it off as we feel he knew this was happening.
