I asked Mr Plod the second time we got stopped, up in Marysville what was going on, he said that they did a blitz in the area back in May for unlicensed riders and unregistered bikes. He stated that they got a fair few, but yesterday they got none- he was pretty happy with that result.

He also said that they had been out every week for the past month just set up all over the area and rarely back in the same spot.

It's all about presence. If by just being there they've saved one life, then they've done their job.

and thats why cameras are such a waste of time
they can only be seen as revenue raisers

I ran into a guy in Marysville at the petrolstation who was complaining about the fact that he got busted for riding on the wrong license and for not having up to date rego on his bike...

Boo-bloody-hoo to him though... If I was a cop I wouldnt have let him ride that piece of rubbish home either...

I don't know about the other states, but South Oz Police do not have access to your licence photos. They should have and I believe it's ridiculous that they don't.

Are you saying that when you guys look up the details, you dont get a picture of the person? If so, thats totally stupid. as if they dont let you visually check that you arent being handed a fake or someone elses id!

Yeah, that kinda defeats the purpose of photo ID.....


Its probably because of their computer system... more than likely its from 1673 and is text based or something hehe

Sounds better than the queensland example where they will also defect you for a aftermarket pipe or fender eliminater just because you are there.

yeh they dont seem to give a toss about any of that stuff here.
At the marysville license check I tried to start my bike as quietly as possible, didn't start up so started it up and gave it a little throttle... gave it a bit more than I planned and ended up with an extra loud start up

One of them stood there having a close look at mike's pipe as he started his bike up. I reckon he was just trying to give mike the heeby jeebies hehe

Oh and I bet the grumpy old sargeant was that bloke in the unmarked silver commodore. he didn't look happy at all. The bike copper was curt but reasonably polite and the others were all pretty friendly I thought.
Just glad I didn't run into any of them on the actual spur.

Yep, text based and I wouldn't be suprised to find that it was written i the late 70's or early 80's. We have plenty of ways of confirming that you are who you say you are. I don't think I've had anyone fool me yet.

If we can't confirm that you are who you say and you can't provide any form of ID, you get locked up and only released when we have confirmed you identity. That normally gets the truth out of people.

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with speed cameras, I do agree with having speed and red light cameras at major intersections. Nothing annoys me more than seeing some half-wit in his rusted out XD Falcon accelerating to a million miles an hour to go through a light that has just turned red.

I try to be polite and professional and engage in as little extra conversation as possible. It's a bitch giving a ticket to someone after you've just had a 15 minute chin-wag with them.

I'm not a fan of speed camera's at intersections. forces you to look down at your instruments when you should really be keeping an eye on what the traffic around the intersection is doing.

red light cameras and speed cameras that go off only when the light is red are a different matter.

You are required by law to give a name and address but you do have a right to know why they want it. If they don't tell you, ask, and then ask again until you get an answer.

Most likely the reason was fairly innocent, but it's not always. Take Benalla cops for example. If you are seen driving in Benalla after 2-3 in the morning they will pull you over to get the same details. Reason given is that if you are driving at that time you would logically be more than likely to be doing something illegal. If anything is reported as having occured that night, you're the first person they talk to.

I doubt this is what was happening at the spur, however they might be compiling a list of regular users on the theory that hitting the spur regularly is a common activity for hoons. Therefore if you step out of line and you're on the list, you get the book. Just a theory of course to boost ya paranoia.
