Lane splitting, legal or not?

Just f&cken do it (but I agree with the traffic stopped argument.

Five reasons ...
If cars were as wide as bikes then every road would be an 8 lane highway
It makes cagers very jealous (enrages some with jealousy)
It's lessens traffic congestion, pollution blahblah
It lets you sleep in min 15 minutes longer (or 15 mins more work, exercise, study whatever)
    Because we CAN

In (fargnlarjnumba) of years commutting in Syd/Mel I have not ever, one, single, time been hassled about it by the law. Everybody expects it and would do it if they could (& weren't too scared to do nowt but drive a 5 seat lounge room around).

Enjoy what makes a bike great in the city.
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

If caught in heavy traffic jam, do what we did. I followed a team mate thru 5km of traffic jam, only to be stopped at head of the line. A police car blocking highway, they saw us pull up and never said a word. But they sure moved quickly when the rain came down......
+ we got a tagger alongerer. Wet weather suited him, he was a squid :D

All I can add is come up fast on a big black bike, lights blazing and almost all will get out of your way on the hwy. In traffic I rarely come accross some clown who gets pissed that I 'm splitting and will try and stick his front wheel in the way, usually I am giving the appearance of speed and they generally back off. I have "hipped" a few mirrors and actually stopped a few times to have the friendly yap to a few and gently folded their mirrors in so I can pass. . They usually wind up their windows of course because of the threating weather or something, anyway they are a lot braver in their car than on foot.

You know Jonno, I have found exactly the same thing happens here  , even round the local *highways* ( Tug P/way, Belc. Way etc etc), when they see those twin lights a' blazin' ( and the Yoshi popping on the overun from about 11k !!), geez they move over quick :P
