Biaggi still a chance for a Kawasaki seat? (**UPDATED**)

Postby aardvark » Sun Nov 27, 2005 12:41 am

Unemployed motorcycle grand prix star Max Biaggi insists that he'll definitely still be in MotoGP next season - although the 13 times 500cc/MotoGP race winner admits that his chances of a Honda ride are effectively over.

Biaggi was dropped by Repsol Honda at the end of a disappointing 2005 season, in which he scored just four podiums, with HRC so upset by his criticisms - and speculation of unfair treatment - that even millions of dollars of Camel money couldn't secure him an RC211V for 2006.

To make matters worse, former employer Yamaha won't take him back - while the factory Ducati, Suzuki and Kawasaki teams have all completed their 2006 rider line-ups. However, the Roman remains defiant:

"I'll be there. It's guaranteed," ANSA reports the 34-year-old as saying during a photo shoot in Milan. "I'm looking at various possibilities and I'm sure I'll make it. It's probably not going to be Honda but I'll definitely be on the track."

Biaggi wouldn't speculate further, but the Italian media continue to suggest that a third Kawasaki - funded by Camel - is his most likely option for 2006. With Camel also thought to be still negotiating with Suzuki, a third GSV-R is also not out of the question.

Meanwhile, one thing Biaggi did rule out was retirement: "I still want to have a lot of fun in motorcycling, something I didn't manage to do this year."

How recent is that?

Here's a part of a very long article.

Camel also approached Kawasaki and was also turned down. Harald Eckl, the Kawasaki team director, said diplomatically that while Biaggi is a talented rider, the current Kawasaki is not competitive and that the team did not have the capacity to run three riders, having already extended Shinya Nakano´s contract and signed French 250 star Randy de Puniet for 2006.

would be interesting if its run as a seperate team with factory suport e.g. gets a pick at the factory partsbin but can use any other bits they like as well like in house shock linkages and stuff which would allow the team to develop their own bikes.

From what i can understand they get the ohlins gear and it comes with a tech (I read that somewhere) but A rat cunning team engineer with a good bit of grey matter between the ears would be a bigger benifit.

And if he came ninth all season you would say thats about right.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I believe that it takes more than riding talent alone to be a champion racer. The ability of the rider/driver to go fast is their innate natural ability to "feel" what the vehicle is doing and being able to communicate accurately to the team so that improvements can be made. Champions have and extra ability in developing their vehicle to be fast. Schumacher does it, Rossi does it, Doohan did it and I'm sure that if you look even further back at past muliple champions you will see they had this ability.

Sure a vehicle, whether it's a car or a bike, that comes along that is superior because of the technical abilities of either of the designer or team engineers and the rider does have the necasary riding ability to win.

I just reckon that Max has the latter ability, he can ride fast, but unless he's on a technically better machine he won't win. He therefore blames the machine or the team because of his lack of ability.

I reckon it would be bad to have Max on a Kawasaki cause I don't think he would benefit development at all...it fact I reckon it would only bring the kawasaki name down.

...but I'll definitely be on the track....

Yeah, he'll be there with the box of kleenex (from his private collection) for Gibbers when he loses again, sweeping Rossi's grid position, holding Checa's hand in the ambulance etc.....
