Twin Sprints Racing.

Postby Strika » Wed Nov 23, 2005 8:27 pm

A few of you may have heard some talk of a new class in the Vic champs next year. A sort of new entry level racing class, possibly to take right thru to nationals. It is apparently up to 650cc V twin fourstrokes, so...

I have been doing a little sniffing around regarding this class, and the word is, if it takes off at Vic champs level, O'neil will seriously look at it as a way to boost entries at national events. Apparently it is the support classes where he lacks the numbers of entries rather than SBK,SSP,SST. Probably be sim run to the C & D Grade Future champions class this year, which went OK but lacked entries at some rounds apparently.

So what bikes are elligible??
1. Suzuki SV650 Naked and faired
2. Hyosung GT650 (A neat knock off of the above)
3. Ducati SS or Monster 620
4. Cagiva 650 raptor
5. Kawasaki ER6 naked and faired
6. Suzi GS500?
7. Kaw ER5
6. Aprilia SXV450?????
8. Honda Deuville 650
9. Yamaha XV535

Any others I have missed???????

I have heard of a GS500e running at 85hp on the rear wheel...

What mods are allowed in this class? a GS would not stand a chance against an SV650...

I am lead to believe it will be very close to superstock rules. So slip on muffler (Maybe have to allow full system due to some bikes having one piece systems) Fork springs and revalve, Rear spring and revalve standard shock, std Ign and Carb/Injection, Standard wheels/calipers, change lines n M/Cylinder, A/mkt body work, remove all road gear and stands, race prep, DOT tyres.

So not a lot of mods. I estimate some of the bikes would get 75-80hp out maybe, maybe a little less. And should weigh no less than 160kgs.

One set of tyres should last a practice day and a race meeting so it should be reasonably inexpensive.

I was seriously considering getting a honda deuville, as a lot of people on hondas vouch for how good they are regardless of the application. But the Hyosung is tempting from a street cred point of view.

I looked at the Suzuki SV and discarded it on the grounds that a guy I know has one and I may get grouped in with him.

The Ducati is very tempting and once I have secured that Million dollars from Briel required to run it in the three round vic champs I am on.

I am tempted by the XV535, as I know a lot of dykes that had them, and if they can haul their weight, they must have 200hp +.

The raptor is also tempting but I have discarded it as it runs an SV motor and I am still likely to be grouped in with the SV rider.

I like the Kawasaki, but unless they give me one they can get fcuked. I have shown them blind faith for 25 years and it's about time they reciprocated.

So it looks like it an SXV450 mootard for me.

Im considering boring out my GS500e to 620, fitting some other carbs to it.... putting somehow attaching a race pipe to it... Moulding up some fairings... and racing THAT...

Sure Im going to lose.... but I will lose in STYLE....

by the way, I am serious.... have you got a link to info... or an email address I can get someone on....

I know a GS500e is the LEAST competitive bike... but with the right mods, I think I can race it and not come last...

Specially with a little help.... *hint*

Anyone want to see a KSRC bike out there? (Will paint GREEN if necissary hehehe)...

If the class will allow some modifications to the GS, I think it might be alright... It actually corners bloody well, weighs bugger all (if I remove the heavy bits, like the centre stand and standard exhaust, pillion pegs, standard pegs, headlight, add fairings, replace rear suspension with something better (possibly RGV standard shock), replace rear rim with something slightly wider...)

Anyways... I am keen.... post a link/email

sounds the goods.
u'd wanna be able to make some serious suspension mods.
wouldn't wanna race an sv650 with its stock front end.
in the words of the great rossi(ours not yamaha's) it'd dive like an italian footballer.

oh and do u reckon you could give us a run down of the other classes?
in particular the novice ones.
cheers mate.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Hahahahahahha GS handle well lol I get it, nice one man.

Seriously save your time and money and trade it on the Hyosung. You do not stand a chance with the GS. I have ridden my brothers one at the edge (and beyond), and man they just are not up to it. You will come last. I reckon the Comet is a top thing for the money.

Being a GS 500 the scrutineers will never look twice at it. Lets stick some big pistons in the fcuker and get you out there. Just have to promise not to pass down the straights.
