will a 91 ZXR750 system fit a 99 ZX7R?

Postby 99coconuts » Mon Aug 29, 2005 9:05 pm

the two bikes are so goddamn close in almost every way, but i thought i'd see what others think before i go ripping them off and swapping them. i've got an old ZXR here with a full muzzy system and i was thinking of chucking that on the ZX7 to compliment the wicked new cans i just got from hemiduty (cheers mate  ).

anyone know the answer? or even think they know the answer?

cheers all :D

oh yeah, you know what would be awesome? some kind of compatibility chart 8) now if something like this exists, just point me in the direction and i'll be one happy little camper  :D

Yep, it will almost certainly fit.

yeah, i did some measuring.... i pulled them off and swapped them over

the engines/frames are VERY similar on these two bikes. i've managed to pinch a bunch of parts off the 91 to replace broken/bent bits on the 99 :D so yeah, thought it was worth a shot, looks like i was right. the studs on the 99 are a little shorter so it was a little bit of task to get the new headers on but everything else fit like a glove.

so now it looks a little better, sounds a lot better and i've gotta get used to a bike with a completely different power curve now. it obviously needs a tune, but i've got a very 'soft' feeling bottom end now (idle to 3-4k) the middle feels a little more solid and the top surges like theres a firecracker lit up its arse

anyways, cheers for the advice as usual

Just be careful, with what you just described it sounds like it might be lean at the bottom end of the rev range, dont want to go putting holes in pistons now do we? At the very least get it checked with a gas analyser up its bum!
