Had an argument with the Missus just before I went up to the shed to do a service on the bike (ZZR1100). Changed plugs, cleaned air cleaner, changed oil, all the usual stuff. Put it all back together and started it. Ran funny and as soon as I gave it a bit of throttle it started to pop and bang and scream it's tits off at the same time. Switched off real quick and scratched head vigorously. Light bulb came on and produced an intense round of swearing. Not only had I forgotten to hook up the wires to one coil, I had left the rags in the throttle mouths that I put in there to stop crap ingress. Pulled it apart and saw three rags with no sign of the fourth one. Popped up the slide and saw it wedged against butterfly valve. Spent 20 minutes picking it all out with needle nose pliers. threads from rag had been pulled out and had wrapped themselves around the throttle shaft. Puts me in contention for dickhead of the year. Just be careful I say.

You should also never go to bed angry. That's what the couch is for...

mate that sux.... reminds me of a racing experience 5 years ago where my valve clearances were not checked by the mechanic after a rebuild there is nothing like a valve top getting stuck in a slider & holding the carbs open at the end of the straight at oran park... so much for the warmup lap ..phawwk... on my Honda 750 4 outfit with all carbs linked she screamed & so did I .... luckly my rider at the time shut down just in time for us to part make the corner but still end up in the kitty litter.... the mechanic rebuilt the enging again & claimed it on his insurance $4000 later the ol girl was back to normal mate was I spewing about his lack if intelegence / forgetfullness / never use him again fuggin cowbow.

That's actually very good advice

It's even true when you're just getting angry because things aren't going right, happens to me all the time (bolts not coming undone etc etc)

My girlfriend has to come out sometimes and grab the hammer off me before I do some real damage

These days when I feel myself losing the plot I just down tools for 10 mins and drink herbal tea while performing some Rolki meditation....HAPPY PLACE, HAPPY PLACE

everything... know the procedure before you start and think about whether
what's happening is sensible

i once threw a hammer at a bike from abt 15yards..hit it too..fuked the fairing good....so dont work on ur bike pissed off...shouldnt really ride pissed off either..has a tendency to make u not pay attn enuf....

I'm usually paranoid about checking everything. Double check and sometimes triple check just to make sure (I think I might be a bit obsessive compulsive), which only pisses me off more because I did something so obviously stupid. Won't do it again though. It's only a painful lesson if it breaks something expensive.
