Tyre Repair

People, I have a three week old Battleaxe on the back of the '9'. Unfortunately there is a 1mm piece of wire in it, dead centre causing the deadly hissing noise. Not a problem you would think, lets get it repaired. After all, it's jusr a tyre, NOT. Whats all this bullshit about speed restrictions, won't touch it, but we will sell you a new one. I have a new one thanks.

So, what if any are the options. After all, it really is just a tyre.

I would have a tyre person look at it and if they think its ok would have it plugged,if there is no internal damage to the tyre. Did youy ride it flat?

Yep, if the hole isn't too big, most tyre joints will plug it. Try G C Motorcycles:

I had a plug in the front of my Zephyr, actually only discovered it when I sold it, and whilst not a super high speed machine, it alledgedly saw sustained nearly 200kmh rides and hardish conering without so much as a wisper from it.

You can buy a kit and plug it yourself, it's pretty easy and then you've got the rest of the kit to stick under your seat if you get caught on a ride.

I've never known a plug to cause any problems and if I were just riding on the road I think it'd be fine. If you were doing track days I'd stick a new tyre on it though.

Done the plug repair twice on one tyre, works good, no leakage and no problems later. Mind you for peace of mind I would get a new tyre as it will always be in the back of your mind. Good time for some smokey photo's hehehe

mate i had the same problem..so i got bills to plug it...(tho now id go to GC and see richard)...i was worried too..but after speaking to Philthy Phil, he assured me id b fine..he did track days on a plugged tyre...so i did a track day on a plugged tyre..no worries...i did notice it lost a bit of pressure and i had to check it weekly...but tyres lose pressure neway....
as long as its not on the sidewall, and hasnt been ridden flat...
oh and when u coming for a ride??

No, by the time I got home, I hadn't lost much pressure ( I left the wire in ).
Today I went to 'Bills' and bought a plugging kit, I have done the job before on my Cruisers
Dueller tyres with no ill effect. So, I'll give it a go.

The other piece of kit I got, is a bottle of 'Never Flat'. Its a liquid that you pour into the tyre
and is supposed to seal a puncture as it happens.

Anyone used this type of stuff before?

Neka, the ride's on anytime, any weekend that is, unfortunatly I work mon - fri. Bye the way, I'm looking at riding to Gladstone, Qld to see an old workmate late Sep or early Oct.

Does that plug kit you brought plug from the inside of the tyre and require removal of the tyre to fit?
If not i would get it properly fixed its not worth the risk.
