ZZR-1200

Postby zx'er » Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:38 am

Hey guys, bit of advice. My partner is interested in a ZZR-1200. Went and saw one down the coast on Saturday. Nice '03 unit with 28000 on it but a couple of things are putting me off. First is the clutch. It tends to grab towards the end of it's travel. No slippage though and very little clutch noise. Just a bleed to fix maybe? Secondly there is a bad shudder when the front brake is applied which gets worse the faster you go. The head bearings seem tight and there is no visible warpage to the discs. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this? dealer reckons he will fix but I am wondering whether it's a sign of bad history like being involved in a prang and badly repaired. Any advice would be good. If anyone knows of a nice 1200 going in Qld around brissie I'm interested to hear about it. Cheers guys

Sounds like warped brake discs.....you can't see that from looking at them. I am thinking about selling my 1200 BTW.
Lotsa extras- Staintune pipes ($1100- not fitted ATM- rode to Canberra recently-wanted stock pipes for the NSW nazis) Bagster tankbag and cover ($480) FloCommander ($200 ish) alarm/immobiliser, heated handgrips, throttle lock, Givi panniers and Rjays (givi copy) topbox with high level brakelight, polished wheels, Goodridge braided lines, tinted screen, Ventura headlight cover, Xenon headlight bulbs,Pilot Power tyres (new) , sheepskin seat cover, 46 tooth rear sprocket (not fitted ATM) etc etc. I even bought a ZZR1100 Kawasaki decal for the engine side cover because the 1200s don't have one and you should see the decal when you pull the fairing off- it looks unfinished otherwise....
Never dropped, pranged or ridden by anyone else but me. Fully serviced and babied- don't even leave it in the sun should the paint fade....my mates give me heaps about that.... :D
As I said before I haven't decided on whether to sell it or not. I have used it in my Yellow Pages ad and my business cards, so maybe I should keep it- it also owes me way over $20k....
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

A mate of mine advertised his on the weekend...

KAWASAKI ZZR 1200, '03, 20,000km, still under wrnty, rack, hot grips, new rear, reg 1/06, as new. $14,500.

I can vouch for it being a nice, well looked after bike with no problems. It's a bit far away from you though :?

Might I say, as a bloke who's hunted around for the world's cheapest deal in the past and suffered for it, that if you can find a resonably priced bike from someone you know has looked after it then you are better off buying that bike. The guys on this forum love their machines and you know you'll (for the most part) get 'a good thing'.

Free plug for the guys selling on this site!

And good luck with bike hunting. ZZR is a sweet machine.
