ZZR600's

I put the zx10 in for it's first service this morning and took a loan bike to get me to work and back.

The thing is a current ZZR600 and I have to say what an absolutely stunning little bike. For an everyday bike that seems like it will do pretty well everything I don't reckon you could go past one. Nice engine, clutch and gearbox, light, comfy, revs to 14 thou, nimble in traffic, confidence inspiring and a great roadcraft bike. In love? You betcha. If I could have two road bikes in the Garage I'd have the 10 and one of these for sure.

For those of you that have one of these, I salute you, great choice of bike, you are truly wise. For anyone thinking of upgrading from their learner bike, you owe it to yourself to ride one. I've still got the silly grin on my face after getting off it.

Now roll on 2.00pm and i get to ride it back and pick up the other one. Ain't motorcycling grand...

Hrmm... Having been convinced not to go a litre bike ( the things we do for love ) I was thinking to upgrade either to a ZX6R or R6 but how does the ZZR600 compare to the ZX6R? -J.

For me, the ZZR600 was the perfect compromise.
I test rode a current ZX6R and grinned from ear to ear, but it wasn't ergonomic enough for my 60km each way commute.
A few months later I took the ZZR out - and still grinned from ear to ear
Comfort wise it's heaps better than the ZX6R and it's not too far behind in the grin factor...

Definitely take one for a ride if you're looking for a new bike - whats the worst that can happen

I can tell you the diff' between the 1200cc bikes, mainly fuel consumption is almost double on ZX12R and the ZZR is more commuter friendly, smoother, stable and more comfortable as on the 600cc bikes not the 12R. But Ninja's they are not.
I have also riden a new ZZR600 just before I bought the ZZR1200 and really they are a perfect compromise, highly recomended but wasn't big and powerful enough for my ego.

It will probably depend how confident you are and what you want to do.

Firstly, slap yourself for even thinking of the Are sicks. Maybe they should be called Are fully sick's.

Remember that the current ZX6r is proabably as quick as the old ZX9 C1's so they are probably not for the faint heated, but no doubt a great bike and should probably be the bike of choice for most who have more sporting intentions.

If you're upgrading from your first road bike I think the ZZR would be a great progression.

forgot to mention.....zzr600's ARE the perfect compromise . and with an ohlins rear shock they can be pretty quick round a track too

What model of ZX-6R? The ZZ-R has remained completely unchanged in the time over which the ZX6 has been through four major redesigns and a further two revisions.

The ZX6-F will only have a less comfy seat, less of a stretch to the bars and be faster than the ZZ-R.
The ZX6-G/J/636A will sit higher in the arse, it'll still have less of a stretch to the bars and be markedly faster and tauter in terms of chassis tune and feel.
The 636B will be a rack in comparison.

I'm not bagging the ZX9, I loved mine but the current ZX6R probably isn't too far off the mark in performance. I haven't checked the power to weight stats but I'd imagine they're pretty close.

Having said that, in experienced hands, I'm sure the power and torque of the 9 would win out, but if you put someone upgrading on both bikes the current ZX6 would probably be as daunting a ride as the old 9
