What is the process?

Postby King Nicholas » Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:39 pm

Let's assume that I was going to sell Tyra and buy a track bike because I have no license for the next 4 years and 8 months. What is the process of test riding it? Do you agree to try it on the track? Do you just do a sneaky around a few blocks? What is the process?

Good visual check over and take your chances but riding on the roads is very risky.

Depends on your budget but buying a bike from someone who has set one up and looking to upgrade is a good idea. Its hit n miss unfortunately re test riding. Either sell yours and buy something your happy to throw down the road eventually or track yours. Either way your still going to need to get to and from the track! Expect to find a few issues the first few days at the track. All part of it!

So from this thread do I deduct things haven't gone well with the previous thread regarding legal issues. ..?

What has become of that?

And if it has happened in regards to that other thread I would suggest you don't even test ride it. Get a mate or don't even bother test riding it.
If you did get caught again unlicensed and unregistered you will be screwed.

You can't tell much other than it changes gear from a 500m ride anyways....

The best bet is to buy a bike that you or your friends know is a good thing. Cheap bikes on Ebay etc are a big gamble; sometimes they pay off, but often you get stung. Even running up and down the street you don't have any idea of what the bike is really like as you can't get a feel for the suspension or run the engine hard.

So basically the judge, my barrister and the police gang raped me and my legal anus (yes, you can use that) is very sore.
No license for another 4 years and 8 months.
I have Tyra, a beautiful, reliable and modified Gumby but am thinking about selling it and buying a track bike, probably a ZX-6R already in track guise.
This way I can still get my rocks off at the track once a month (assuming my Mrs or fellow riders will take me with them) until said license may be regained.
Someone mentioned I need a MA license to ride on a track.
What is that? Do I need one and if so are they hard/expensive to obtain?

Even though you're suspended, I think holding a road licence is fine for trackdays. Someone else should be able to confirm or reject that soon.

I was about to get very angry when I read you need a valid license to get a MA license but it turns out you don't. You can attend a 'motorcycle competency test' to show that you can ride and that will suffice. More money I expect but it will have to be done. Now to give Tyra a clean on the next sunny day, maybe a bit of detailing and pop her on Bikesales. Wow, I don't know if I can sell her. I might have to investigate the cost for race fairings.

My personal opinion is to sell Tyra and buy a 6, either a known bike already sorted as a tracky, or a write off. Chucking a six around the track is a lot of fun, and some 10 owners who have ridden a six at the track love it.

If you can prove you held a road license you won't need to do the competency test. You need to join a club eg St George and do your knowledge test. It used to be $275 a year for MA but there's a cheaper option than MA these days isn't there. Someone here will know.

Also be wary of the "up and down the street". If you're gonna do it I'd recommend full leathers so you look the part. A mate of a mate did the 100m dash without a helmet when buying a bike. Cop happened to drive past the end of the street and he threw the book at him. In you case you'd get full set of Encyclopedia Britainnica.

Sucks about the license mate hope the time goes quickly for you. If you get really stuck for anything you can try your luck on here, never know what someone might be able to help out with.
