So the track bike is coming along nicely; though you wouldn't know to look at it

- Fairings are being made and should be delivered next week ready for paint
- Suspension is away being fettled, 3 or 4 weeks to get it all back
- Michellin Power One's are on the wheels
- New pads have arrived
- Rearsets on their way from UK
- Fairing/tacho bracket on it's way from USA
- R1 Quick throttle fitted
- Unused electrical switches removed
- K&N in airbox
- Engine serviced

Need to order braided brake lines from Hel today or next week, bolt everything on as it arrives then we shoudl be good to go :kuda:

Well on the way mate...
This is the easy bit... 8)
the hard bit comes after the first track day when you get hooked and want to do it every weekend. :kuda:

Every weekend may be a push but once a month might be do-able :kuda:

Need to buy all of the bits for a van/trailer soon too; got ratchet straps but want a ramp and a trailer-mate for the front.

I've got a brand new set of HEL braided front brake lines here for a ZXR, they're stainless banjos & clear covered lines.
I bought them for my bike just before I Streetfightered it, never put them on because they weren't long enough with the Pro Tapers.
I'm sure we could work out a deal ;)

That's for the intel mate; they'll be on order tomorrow then a few bits to buy from Kaneg before the wait until everything arrives!

Are the fuel caps interchangeable between the ZXR and ZX7R? Wanting a race style fuel cap!

Pazzo's ordered! Had to get one's for a ZX7R (1996-2003) so hopefully they fit otherwise I'm fooked!

Will be ordering a race fuel cap from a ZX7R tonight, not sure if Kaneg's one will fit!

Not too bad thanks mate. Bit of progress on the job front, but I'm still an unpaid dole bludger at the moment. Doing a bit of casual work (mind-numbingly boring), but tinkering with the bike as well to keep my sanity; fitted up the WSB / BSB radiator set-up, very pleased with the looks and trickness although addin g weight doesn't sit well with me !

All the best,
Brian

Maybe you can help with the weight loss regime on the ZXR?

Have ordered plenty of Alloy bits to replace the steel where I can but all advice is welcome!

I've shed 8kg so far too so I'm also doing my bit!

Weight reduction – here’s my simplistic philosophy: take a close look at every last single part of your bike. If it helps it accelerate, brake or turn, make it lighter / stronger / more powerful. If it doesn’t, then get rid of it. Above all, nothing is too small to be not worth looking at. The key to pulling weight out is attention to detail; despite what people might want to think, there are no hidden 10kg lumps of steel waiting to be unbolted. I’m a big fan of a guy called Ron Murakami, who was a fabricator for American Honda when they were building the Spencer-era CB-F superbikes. His one comment that sticks in my mind was “There’s no secret to removing weight. Take off a gram here and a gram there, and 454 grams later you’ve taken off a pound.” Wise words indeed ...

Specific items for your ZXR – there’s a mountain of them, but a couple of the less obvious ones that leap to mind:

• Remove the lower radiator mount – it’s not needed to hold the rad in place, and if you happen to fall off, all it will do is encourage the rad to bend
• Swingarm – find and fit a J or K part. They’re about 1.5kg lighter I believe, due to the pivot section being fabricated rather than cast
• Swingarm pivot sleeve – get ye a ZX7R part. They’re ally rather than steel, although being 3 or 4mm shorter you’ll need a small spacer to take up the difference
• Engine mount clamps (the crenelated rings that lock the spacers in place) – remove them, they serve no purpose on a track bike

There’s a stack of others, perhaps I should have a good look at your bike sometime to prod my failing memory!
Cheers,
Brian
