bike not happy

Hi
Ive just purchased a ZZR 600 1996 model

When i got it the bike wasn't running smooth and wouldn't idle.
Ive pulled the carby's apart and fully cleaned them and also replaced the plugs but it still runs rough, all the cylinders are firing but it sounds like the timing is out?? is this possible?

Ive also checked the fuel pump and everything works fine when i ride it the bike starts off sluggish but once the revs come up its not too bad but still not perfect.

It really feels like some kind of spark issue or ecu problem any suggestions would be good

Cam timing?
Dodgy ignitors?
Carb balance or sticky needle valve?

Yeah i cleaned the carbys good and made sure all those components were clear and reset the float levels plus ive put a plug on the end of each lead and it was firing good.

One thing i did notice was the rubber seat on the end of the float needle was slightly detatched between the rubber and aluminium but not badly and the seating area still looked good.

It just seems to sound like a timing issue??

Exhaust valve clearances at a wild guess.

Are any header pipes staying cold, and noises etc?

Yeah i really dont think its the Exhaust valves the biuke was running fine last time it was rode its been sitting for about 10 months

you mean the Viton tip on the needle was coming off ??

that is your problem right there. Replace all your needle's & seats.

These bikes don't have ECU's. The ignition timing is unlikely to be an issue at all, unless you have mucked around with the sender units on the end of the crank. If these haven't been changed, your ignition timing has not moved.

99% of 'electrical/timing/spark' issues - are inevitably carbie issues. Bad fuel, poor carbie settings, dud fuel pumps, blocked filters, blocked fuel taps etc etc. Rarely if ever is it actually a spark or timing problem, and if it is, then it will generally be related to a dud battery in the first place.

Things like ignition coils etc simply don't break down from sitting for 10 months.

Yeah when i took the carbys apart 2 of the float needles had approx .5mm gap between the aluminium and the base of the viton tip the actual sealing face of them looks good and they were still attached
