Paint Protection for cars

Postby swearbear9r » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:30 pm

QUESTION:
Has anyone had anything to do with Opti Coat paint protection and GT paint protection.
thinking of getting one of them done to the SV6 just a bit unsure to what one of them,
Or if i just stick with the good old wax and stuff.

Any input will be good.

You have paid for a UV resistant stain resistant clear coat over base ..paint system for the Commodore
Anything else is snake oil imho...

(and for the record I have just bought a new VE SSv wagon and told the dealers aftermarket product manager to ...get stuffed nicely when asked if I want paint protection)
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Paint protection sold by dealers to buyers as added extra is a farce.

Gives a false sense of belief to the buyer that they have to do very little in maintaining the exterior of the vehicle.

Gotta luv seeing a soccermum's newish dull, swirled 4X4 with a paint protection sticker on its window, when filling up at the servo

The best paint protection is, wash, wax and polish regularly.

The more layers of polish you put into the paint over time (when done properly) the more protected the paint becomes.

I have a rule with "paint protection":

Don't.

Paint protection is a waist of time. I know I use to sell it when I worked at a stealership.

Get it polished and waxed straight away and then keep the wax up to it. Once a year have it polished (polishing is like a cleaner and will remove all the old wax and any fine dust/dirt that has been traped in it when its done right) and start the waxing again. Any time you polish a spot wax it when your done. Keep the wax up to it and it will help stop bird shit and stuf burning your paint.
I do this to my car and it don't take long if once you have your base down. Have done it from new and it still looks like new 4 years later.

Looks good to me.

Go find the guy that is trying to sell you that shit and kick him in the nuts. Then go home and have a Jim Beam and be thankful you didn't waste your money on that silly aftermarket bullshit.
