Blood Donation

Postby Kermit » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:44 pm

Being a recipient of a blood transfusion, I thought it would be more the reason to give back; whilst giving blood at the donor centre, I was advised that there was real short supply of blood group A & O.

If you know you have blood type A or O and you're considering/thought about giving blood, it would really be help if you could donate some blood.

If you have a different blood group; your donation is very much appreciated, you can also donate plasma or platelets (they simply filter it).

Donor centres or mobile centres finder can be found through website postcode search http://www.donateblood.com.au/ or ring 13 14 95.

Got questions about giving blood, do the 30 second "are you able to give blood quiz" on the website; it should pretty much answer most frequent questions asked.

A group of us from work are heading in tomorrow to give blood donations, but I don't think I am able, as I have had a runny nose all day :(

Yep it's a great thing to give blood, helping others. Just think it could be your mother, brother, sister ,daughter that needs it at some stage....

This was just 2 days ago, tried giving blood but apparently cause i failed to tick the have you seen a doctor for a serious illness box (didn't think a broken clavicle was a "serious illness", Aids, SARS, bird flu that's a serious illness. The nurse called some people up and told me my blood was fine for donation "but for my safety i need all my blood to heal since its just 75% healed" didn't think she wanted my blood.

Having tattoo work done in the last 6 months is one of the exclusions, but once that time is up you can still donate, if you want to.

Giving blood is easy, and costs no more than 20-30 mins of your time. The way I see it if there is an injured rider at the track or on the road and requires a blood transfusion; my or your blood donation is helping them.

Some nurses exercise more caution than others.

By definition I should of waited a little longer before giving considering my injuries, but I insisted and was prepared to sign a waiver.

I know I can be very stubborn when I want to get something done.

I'm not saying you should do that, heal up; if you still want to donate go when ready.

Have recently started donating plasma as well, you can do it every two weeks if you want to. Waiting for my next whole blood donation to accompany my step daughter for her first time.

spoooky! (the timing of your post)

I hadn't donated in over 10 years... and donated last week... and was even lucky enough to get a trainee extraction needle stabbing lady.. (who left 1 arm severely bruiseD).

But it's definitely a good cause... just make sure you have good iron levels and hydrate well for days before and days after :kuda:

I donate every fortnight (plasma and platelets) or I used to before I moved bush, only collection facilities near me are all whole blood now so now I drop into the big smoke every 3 weeks or so, i'm A+ and it has already come in handy potentially as my nephew is A+ and had a bad car accident needing many blood transfusions.

Sadly I think i'm the only one on my family that does donate bloood.
