OEM BT016 Tyre life

Postby Kermit » Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:01 pm

The situation is as follows.

Riding the natio last sunday on my way back, I noted the rear slide on two right handers; I wouldnt call them tight or hair pin corners.

Now there were some damp patches through nation, however I don't recall or believe the two right handers in question were damp.

One right hander was off camber the other wasn't, anywho I am trying to fathom whether my 4500km OEM BT016 rear is gone to shite via joining the HTFU over time, hit some stripage whilst in lean, or its rider error on my behalf.

I am happy to confirm not joining team crash 2012 yet as I kept on throttle and it eventually gripped, is that what backing it in feels like?

OEM BT016 Tyre life

Postby Blurr » Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:40 pm

Whilst I am not saying you had a bit of a slide due to the tyre life but when I was using the bt016 set after set I found the front was toast by 4000kms and the rear not long after but usually it lasted better than the front as the front sides being the soft compound just destroyed themselves by about 3000kms and for the last 1000 it was like riding on a knife edge at half lean. It just constantly fell over and slipped. The rear however was fine, as the bike moving around in the rear was never that bad.

In saying that I thought they were a good tyre .

The front sides are looking a lot more worn then the rear, as you mentioned.

On the next run I'll ask a few of the faster guys if they don't mind sitting on the back of me for few corners to see whether its rider error on my behalf.

Cant say i see many 16's on the road these days with what available out there..

To me a tyre that wears badly is a bad tyre..No matter how good they are at the start..

Yeah the OEM 016's are odd with the grip but after a bit of wear and tear mine were average? like cold they were rubbish once they had a few k's on them. Since the OEM's I have had shop bought 016's which were a totally different tyre wore out quicker but stuck like shit to a blanket kinda stuff, now running the 016 Pro's ( updated version) and they also stick to said blanket but only have a couple of hundred k's on them

To summarise once the OEM 016's got 5k+ on them they were average, gave little confidence in the tyre

The non OEM 016's felt great till the very end of life.

Note I am not a pro rider and my feedback is from a novice perspective

I love your new YELLOW wheels, Wattman ...... but the tyres are all wrinkly ....
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

That's a decent effort! After the supers?

My rear isn't that worn, that leaves rider input.
