Any bike mechanics from Sydney on here?

Postby up2nogood » Sun Mar 11, 2012 5:52 pm

Just curious, got a partly dismantled ZX12R that is stuck at Westleigh (home) that could do with a mobile mechanic. Leaking rocker cover gasket and a cylinder miss that just appeared and likely due to fuel going off. I already drained and flushed the fuel, was running on 2 cylinders, now running on 3.

Was going to fix it myself, pulled fairings off to see how had it is to access spark plugs, but after not having had time to ride it for 2 years, I'm fooling myself if I think I have time to fix it.......

PM me if you have any ideas, please!

Word is the engine has to be tilted forward, 12 owners should be along soon to fill in the details :D

no need to undo everything to access rocker cover ,,,,,,just done all this on the 00 and is the same as the 05,,,,,step 1/remove riders seat step 2/ remove air box/tank cover step 3/remove both side fairings step 4/ remove inner trims covering the air-ram tubes step 5/ unplug all wiring on left hand side just above the rocker step 6/ now you should be able to get your hands in to unplug the 4 igniters from both sides and pull wiring out of the way step 7/ using a blade screw driver gently lever the igniters up until they are free/then gently by hand pull the igniters up as far as they will go and that should give enough room to bend over on an angle so they can be pulled out(start from the outside and work to the inner ones) step 8/ remover coolant reservoir step 9/ remove pollution hardwear above rocker step 10/ remove rubber mat covering rocker step 11/ undo the 2 bolts holding the plastic cover on the rocker and this should pull out from the left hand side step 12/ undo the 7 bolts holding the rocker cover and lift up and pull out from the left hand side,,,,,,,,,,,,,reverse the steps to put back together,,,,,,,,,this took me about 3hrs from start to finish ,,,,,this is not a hard job to do but you must take your time and do not drop anything on to the open head as it will become a bigger job to get it out,,,,,,,,,enjoy and have fun ;) :D ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,cheers paul pm me if you get stuck

Thanks Paul, I was at step 4 when I thought I'd pull up stumps......

I have had the rocker cover off before to fix an oil leak over the top of that sensor on the front kerb side of the engine, and it's leaking from there again. Might have to use a better sealant, although I did use a good one last time.... Bastard of as thing!

I am so strapped for time that I am happy to slip some coin to get this done, provided the doer is 100% able to do a 100% job. If not, the poor bloody thing will sit there for another 2 years!

If you still want someone to come over, I know a bike mechanic in Mt Colah that might be able to assist?
2004 ZRX1200R
And on the seventh day Richo ended his work which he had made. Decided resting was for soft cox, straddled the REX and headed up the old road.
And it was good
