07/08 ZX6R Speedo on 02 ZX6R

Postby BarraSpalding » Thu Feb 16, 2012 3:56 pm

Is it more work than reward? - is it even possible?

If I got my hands on a 07/08 ZX6R Speedo unit, to swap onto my 02 ZX6r?

I quite like the look of the newer unit :D Anyone done this?

how many k's has it got on it?

(sorry, don't know much about doing the change over except that it sounds hard enough/expensive enough not to bother, is the 02 all analog or analog and digital?)

I don't think it matters but the tracky has about 3,000 - 4,000 on it. I don't know that the speedo stores the k's though
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

sorry I read your post wrong thought you have the speedo already...

Buuuut it's from Glen's 6 you'd have to be extremely fortunate if the digital comms protocol and messaging etc between the old ecu and the new dash were the same, but even on the SLIGHT chance that worked and you got odometer and idiot lights etc, the speedo won't work because from memory no speedo cable goes into the dash, just a large electrical plug.

Also the gear indication, water temp, fi light, oil pressure and lap timers wouldn't work etc etc etc

Suggest you spend your money on a chico roll :kuda:

ok... because my speedo is doing the EXACT same thing as the one in the above (and posted below for ease of use) picture - the MELTING around the left side indicator light...

Image
No idea why - i hardly leave it in direct sunlight and I dont see how that would be an issue as its just isolated to that one area. And i dont recall leaving my left indicator on for extended periods of time.

Would the 03 tacho fit/connect up? I know 03 is the start of FI, but otherwise I thought they were a very similar engine.

07/08 ZX6R Speedo on 02 ZX6R

Just read through the link yeah the 03 one looks like a goer :)

Could the melting be due to the sun being focussed by the screen like a big magnifying glass?

I thought that... but without seeing it actually happen i cant see how. And having noticed that pic above from some random bike on bikesales having the same problem - could might be a hot-spot inside the cluster?

Either way - now on the hunt for 03/04 gauges... with exactly 37,800 km's :kuda:

i know dave 3 on his zx9 never leaves the screen uncovered and his is tinted... id suggest more riding and less worrying, but if 03 is doable then knock ya socks off

i miss my bike :(

yea my screen is an iridium green screen, and from what I see thru it - it lets fk all light thru.

But yes 03 is doable, and something new!!!!
