the only time i had the split clip was on non Oringed/X style of chains,never had a problem at all.Don't get me wrong as i have never been hard on drag racing with bikes (as i was write into cars in the early day's) much but every drag style of chain isn't O/X ringed due to the power loss from having O/x style of chains.The only thing i keep thinking of is the split style of connector has more pressures on it,out wards force as it takes a bit to crush the O/X rings just to get the end plate of the link to be in the write spot if you know what i mean..PS its just the way i see things mate i could be totaly wrong! :kuda:

Buggerd if i know.. in the past, with the split link, i make sure the O/X ring is seated properly, fit the link plate, and press it on till the grooves are clear of the plate, and make sure the clip is seated properly, simple really... but this one sheared off at the groove :shock: :shock: but anyway, still my fault for been slack :lol: :lol: was in the back of my mind when i did it that way, so maybe that should have told me something........

And yer, on my drag bike, we only ran non O ring chains, as it didnt matter... but funny enough, the one i broke back then, was brand new... and they were purpose built for drag racing...

I always get rivet chains just because of all the horror stories you hear about chains breaking, it's usually split links.. I know that it's usually due to fitting them in the wrong direction or something, but it's just one less thing to worry about.

EK also make a screw-type link which is apparently as strong as a rivet link, only easier to fit.

Never forget being in madkaws garage listening to him...

Walks over spins his back wheel around and theres the link sitting there with no clip on it. Lucky he found that in the garage and not the track :)

Since then it's rivets for me, except the dirt bike, as I swap chains when I go to Motard setup.

This will be a stupid question (esp as I have already fitted the new EK chain). A previous chain I fitted (a chinese one which I just threw out as I wasnt comfortable with a $70 chain which kept spitting x rings!) had a direction in which the chain was supposed to run. The EK I fitted had no such thing, and from my previous experience in power transmission, the chain can be fitted either way. Is there a way the chain should run (I realise there is a correct direction to fit the link)?

I am just guessing but i always have the writing the right way up on the top of the chain,it just seems common sence if it was directional that would be the right way to have it.
