also... any pics of these "operations" at all, anyone?? i laughed at the thought of getting my better half on the back brake and having pieces of wood thru spokes in the wheel, etc.... (funny to me, as I've never even seen my front sprocket, let alone tried to mess with this dredded BOLT!!)

Mate 2 bits of advise.
First you dont start doing things on your bike the night before your going
to need it !
and second as was said the right tool for the job.

Its aint a big deal changing sprokets and chains its the pressure that you put on yourself when things go wrong

i think from memory the chain breaker/joiner (saves u gettin out the angle grinder too) is abut $150-$200....if u consider its the HARDEST thing about putting the new chain on (trying to flatten the pins with a hammer/lump of wood just dont cut it)...then its a wise investment...if u change 3 or 4 chains, it pays for itself...its a job u plan in advance (unlike sum running fix ups u have to do), so take time to source one (beg,borrow or buy)and the job is so much easier...

also they dont recomend using circlip links on anything bigger than a 250 these days....
