MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2005
ROUND 4 - GRAND PRIX ALICE DE FRANCE, LE MANS
09 MAY 2005 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAKANO AND JACQUE TO OPEN LE MANS KAWASAKI DEALERSHIP
The opening of a new Kawasaki dealership in Le Mans will provide Kawasaki factory riders, Shinya Nakano and Olivier Jacque, with an ideal opportunity to meet and greet their many fans ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix.

To commemorate the opening of the new Best Way Kawasaki shop on Avenue du Panorama, Nakano and Jacque will appear at the dealership at 10 o'clock on Thursday 12th May, where they'll sign autographs and pose for photographs with fellow Kawasaki riders.

The appearance of the factory Kawasaki pilots at the Best Way Kawasaki event is expected to draw a big crowd, as both riders enjoy a huge following in France. As the only French rider in MotoGP, Olivier Jacque can count on the support of his home crowd, but his popularity is matched by that of Shinya Nakano, who built up a loyal following in France during his time with the French Tech 3 team.

The two Kawasaki riders will get another chance to meet French race fans on the Thursday evening, when they appear at a public autograph session arranged by the promoters of the French Grand Prix.

The autograph session, which always draws a large and enthusiastic crowd, will take place at the Place de la République in the centre of Le Mans, starting at 7 o'clock in the evening. Nakano and Jacque will be on hand to sign autographs, hand out posters and answer questions from their many French fans.

For race fans unable to make it to Le Mans on Thursday there will be another opportunity to meet Shinya Nakano and Olivier Jacque on Saturday evening. The two Kawasaki pilots, together with Jacque's Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR race bike, will be making an appearance on the Arlen Ness stand in the circuit spectator area starting at 5 o'clock.

10 MAY 2005 - EVENT PREVIEW

KAWASAKI PLAN JACQUE ATTACK IN FRANCE
Kawasaki rider Olivier Jacque is set for a popular home-coming at Le Mans this weekend for the French Grand Prix, the fourth round of the MotoGP World Championship.

Following his magical wet weather ride into second place in last week's Chinese Grand Prix, Jacque has ensured that he will be the focus of attention at his home race this weekend.

The China result was the best ever in the elite class of GP racing for both Jacque and the factory Kawasaki team. It also delivered Bridgestone's first wet tyre podium finish since their entry into MotoGP.

It is now two years since Jacque raced at Le Mans and he anticipates an ‘incredible atmosphere' for the French Grand Prix. In 2003 Jacque finished fourth in this race.

Jacque will again race alongside Kawasaki's number one rider Shinya Nakano, as the temporary replacement for the injured Alex Hofmann.

But despite his fairytale comeback in Shanghai, Jacque is under no illusions about the task he faces at Le Mans. The highly competitive nature of MotoGP ensures that last week's glory will count for little once the race starts in France.

The stop-and-go layout of the 4.18 km Le Mans circuit, with its emphasis on hard braking and sharp acceleration, will be a very different challenge to that faced in China.

Since his superb performance in Shanghai, Jacque has been flat out in the build-up to Le Mans.

After returning to his London home Jacque has been busy with both media interviews and his training schedule. He returned to France earlier this week to conduct a rider training course at the Dijon circuit, before travelling to Le Mans to continue preparations for his home GP.

After the disappointment of his early retirement from the China race, Nakano is focused on delivering another polished performance at Le Mans.

The French Grand Prix is one of Nakano's favourite races, as the popular Japanese rider lived in France when he raced for the Tech3 squad.

Nakano expects that the increasingly competitive performance of the Ninja ZX-RR will provide an opportunity for him to regain his place in the top six of the championship points.

Shinya Nakano: # 56
"Le Mans is a very different type of circuit, acceleration and braking stability are very important because of the stop-go layout. In the past it has not been ideal for Kawasaki, but with our new engine and the latest electronic parts for the fuel injection I expect the Ninja ZX-RR will be much more competitive. This year our chassis is more stable at the rear, with better traction under acceleration and improved balance, which will help us at Le Mans; as will the latest generation of Bridgestone tyres. I'm always happy to be at this race because I lived in the south of France for four years, I have a good feeling here and I have some friends coming to the race."

Olivier Jacque: #19
"It is a long time since I have raced at Le Mans and there are always high expectations for the French riders, I'm sure the atmosphere will be incredible. But I'm not feeling stressed or under pressure. In fact, I'm appreciating the support from the fans and I'm really comfortable to be racing in my home Grand Prix; for sure it will be a big party. After my ‘magic' race in Shanghai I'm not sure what to expect at Le Mans, it is difficult for me to predict the performance of the Ninja ZX-RR at this track because I still don't have a lot of experience on the bike. But I'm aiming to be very competitive; the support of the Kawasaki team is giving me a lot of confidence, as are the Bridgestone tyres, which are very impressive both in the dry and wet, as we saw in China."

MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2005
ROUND 4 - GRAND PRIX ALICE DE FRANCE, LE MANS
12 MAY 2005 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAKANO AND JACQUE MEET THE FANS AT BEST WAY KAWASAKI
More than 1000 Kawasaki fans greeted Shinya Nakano and Olivier Jacque, when the two riders arrived to officially open the new Best Way Kawasaki shop in Le Mans this morning.

The new Best Way shop, which opened it's doors just two days ago, is a purpose built facility offering the complete range of Kawasaki motorcycles, accessories and Kawasaki Racing Team merchandise.

After posing for photographs on a number of Kawasaki ZX-10R road bikes painted as exact replicas of the Ninja ZX-RR MotoGP machines they'll race this weekend at Le Mans, Nakano and Jacque then sat down for a marathon autograph session.

"The turn out was incredible; I couldn't believe how many people were there on a Thursday morning," commented Shinya Nakano. "The new shop is impressive. It was interesting to see so many Kawasaki motorcycles in one place and the number of people who turned up on race replica ZX-10R road bikes was fantastic. It was great to meet so many fellow Kawasaki riders ahead of this weekend's race, and I hope they'll all be in the stands cheering for us on Sunday."

"To meet the fans in such a relaxed atmosphere was a good experience, and it's great to know that we have such strong support from our fellow Kawasaki riders," said Olivier Jacque. "There were so many people there that I just hope we managed to sign autographs for everyone. Hopefully we'll see some of the Kawasaki flags we signed being waved from the stands on Sunday."

To mark the occasion of their visit to the dealership, the staff at Best Way Kawasaki surprised the two Kawasaki riders as they prepared to return to the circuit, by presenting them with two race replica pocket bikes; one number 56 machine and one number 19 bike.

"A big thanks to Best Way Kawasaki, not just for the pocket bikes they very kindly presented us with, but also for allowing us to meet the fans at such a well organised event. I look forward to returning next year," added Nakano.

Nakano and Jacque will get another chance to meet French Kawasaki fans at seven o'clock this evening, when they take part in an autograph session at the Place de la République in the centre of Le Mans.

Gibernau, Jacque aim to slow Rossi down

PARIS, May 11 Reuters - Sete Gibernau and Olivier Jacque both have excellent reasons to hope they can slow down Valentino Rossi in this weekend's French MotoGP Grand Prix.

Spaniard Gibernau will chase his third successive victory at the Le Mans track knowing he must win his first race of the year to avoid dropping too far behind the dominant Italian.

The Honda rider, who has finished second behind Rossi in the championship for the last two years, lies a disappointing fifth in the standings, 37 points from the top.

France's Jacque will be eager to shine before his home fans two weeks after finishing second to Rossi with a fantastic ride through torrential rain in Shanghai.

The former world 250cc champion was making his comeback as a replacement rider for Kawasaki. Again this weekend, he will deputise for German Alex Hofmann, who cracked his rib in a demonstration ride last month.

"It is a long time since I have raced at Le Mans and there are always high expectations for the French riders," Jacque said.

"I'm sure the atmosphere will be incredible but I'm not feeling stressed or under pressure."

Rossi has no intention of letting either Gibernau or Jacque steal any of the limelight. The world champion has powered his Yamaha to victory in two of the opening three rounds, living up to his reputation in the dangerous sport.

The Italian's greatest rival so far has been his compatriot Marco Melandri, Gibernau's team mate in the Honda Movistar stable.

Former world 250cc champion Melandri has scored two podium finishes and is second in the championship, 25 points behind Rossi.

The only rider to have beaten Rossi this season is Brazil's Alex Barros, from the Camel Honda team, who won in Portugal.

Barros, third in the title chase, will be wanting to make amends for a poor ride in China, where he finished 11th after jumping the start.

"Le Mans is a track that has always been rather tough for me but that's not to say that I won't be aiming for a top result," he said.

Several riders, starting with Max Biaggi, will be desperate to bounce back from a frustrating start to the season.

Biaggi had entered the campaign full of hope after finally getting the Honda factory ride he craved but the Italian is only in fourth position after three events, 34 points behind Rossi, his countryman and bitter rival.

The Bugatti track, which shares a section with the circuit used for the Le Mans 24-Hour classic, is demanding with a fast home straight and many areas requiring heavy, late breaking.

"To take on the Bugatti track in the best possible way, a perfect set up is needed and a good feeling with the front tyre is very important," Gibernau explained.

The 250cc championship is shaping into an exciting battle between some gifted young riders.

Andre Dovizioso of Italy, the 125cc world champion last year, is still in the lead but the Honda rider is under threat from Australian teenager Casey Stoner, a close second after taking the last two races on his Aprilia.

ROUND 4 - GRAND PRIX ALICE DE FRANCE, LE MANS
13 MAY 2005 - FREE PRACTICE

SUPER SHINYA SIXTH FASTEST AT LE MANS
Kawasaki's Shinya Nakano mastered a day of changeable weather conditions to finish sixth fastest after today's free practice sessions at Le Mans.

Nakano was easily in the top ten, both in the dry morning session and also in the one hour afternoon session, which was hit by rain halfway through.

While Nakano was delighted with the confidence-boosting performance of his latest specification Ninja ZX-RR his temporary teammate, Olivier Jacque, was praying for rain.

Following his superb second place podium in a water-logged Chinese Grand Prix two weeks ago, Jacque is now hoping for similar conditions for the remainder of the weekend.

Jacque's wish is based on his lack of dry track testing since he was ushered into the Kawasaki team to replace the injured Alex Hofmann. Even so, Jacque sliced one second from his time in the morning session during the early dry laps of afternoon free practice.

The 31-year-old Frenchman, who will attract massive local support for his home race on Sunday, feels much more comfortable on a wet track.

No surprise after he splashed his way to the podium just behind Valentino Rossi in China.

Both of today's sessions were conducted in cool and overcast conditions, with the constant threat of rain. The rain arrived 30 minutes into the afternoon session and is forecast to continue over the weekend.

At the stop-go Bugatti circuit at Le Mans the factory Ninja ZX-RR machines continue to benefit from a new drive-by-wire throttle and injection system. Introduced for the Chinese race, the system includes revised electronics, plus throttle bodies, fuel injectors and injector pumps.

Shinya Nakano: #56 - Sixth - (1'35.067)
"It was a strange day with the weather, but I'm very positive about our dry track performance, especially in the morning session. The latest engine parts have improved acceleration and throttle response, which are critical on this track. The Ninja ZX-RR is now much improved over the bike I raced here one year ago. My main work tomorrow will be on throttle connection and front-end turn-in for all the slow corners at Le Mans. And I'm more comfortable in the wet here than I was in China."

Olivier Jacque: #19 - Fifteenth - (1'36.451)
"I need more testing on a dry track, so I can more fully understand the bike and the set-up, that is clear after today. I am more comfortable in the wet, so now I'm hoping for rain over the weekend. In the wet the rider can make a big difference; in the dry the riders' influence is important, but less than in the rain. My lap time is improving every time I go out, but with a four-stroke MotoGP bike engine braking, throttle and suspension settings are critical for maximum dry track performance. It's my home race, but I'm focussed and not feeling any pressure."

Ichiro Yoda: Technical Director
"In the dry Shinya's position appears very good, and we still have some further adjustments to make to the new injection system for tomorrow. Olivier is more comfortable in the wet, so we are looking at the data from his bike to adjust the engine braking and throttle settings to improve his dry track performance. My main concern is the uncertain weather conditions, especially if it is half-dry and half-wet. Just as in China, it appears we have very good wet tyre options from Bridgestone for this race."

14 MAY 2005 - QUALIFYING PRACTICE

SUPER SHINYA STORMS TO SIXTH AT LE MANS
Kawasaki factory rider Shinya Nakano turned in a superb qualifying effort today, to secure sixth place, on the second row of the grid, for the French Grand Prix.

Riding his Ninja ZX-RR, Nakano was the highest placed Bridgestone rider; finishing just 0.3s from the pole position claimed by Valentino Rossi, in a session run in mainly sunny but slightly overcast conditions.

Teammate and local hero Olivier Jacque will start from 13th position, in just his second race for Kawasaki as a replacement for the injured Alex Hofmann.

Nakano was twice on the provisional front row during the one-hour session and with 13 minutes remaining he was the fastest rider on the 4.1 km Bugatti circuit. He briefly dropped to seventh and then surged to third quickest with five minutes left to run in a highly competitive session, before finishing in a close sixth place.

Jacque continued to demonstrate his fast adaptation to the ZX-RR after a seven month break from MotoGP, and is now much more comfortable in dry conditions.

There is intense fan support for Jacque at his home race, following his impressive second place podium result in the rain-hit Chinese GP two weeks ago.

Both Nakano and Jacque appear ready for any conditions in tomorrow's 28-lap race. The forecast is for showers, although both riders would prefer a continuation of this afternoon's warm and sunny conditions.

In the morning free practice session run on a wet track Jacque and Nakano were seventh and eighth fastest respectively, an indication they will contend for top ten results in the wet or dry.

Shinya Nakano: #56 - Sixth - (1'33.536)
"I was aiming for the second row, so sixth position is right where I wanted to be for the race. I went faster on each qualifying run and tried for pole, it was very close. I did some race tyre runs early in the session, and it appears we have two options for the race if it is dry, and the Bridgestone wets have performed very impressively. I have good chassis balance in both the wet and the dry, especially for turn-in for all the slow corners, so we are ready for the race."

Olivier Jacque: #19 - Thirteenth - (1'34.403)
"I was much more comfortable in the dry conditions this afternoon compared to yesterday, although I'm still struggling a little in the final sector of the lap. Yesterday I was hoping for rain, but now I'm really enjoying the ZX-RR in the dry, so I hope it is sunny for the race. The bike feels more balanced following adjustments to the engine brake system. I'm not paying attention to the hype, I'm just concentrating on the race."

Harald Eckl: Team Manager
"Shinya is very fast in both the dry and the wet, so I expect him to be very competitive no matter what the weather conditions for the race. Olivier goes faster in every session, despite a limited amount of test kilometres in dry conditions. He has been very impressive, especially in out-qualifying some regular MotoGP riders from Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha."

QUALIFYING PRACTICE - FINAL TIMES
1. Valentino Rossi (ITA) Gauloises Yamaha Team 1'33.226; 2. Colin Edwards (USA) Gauloises Yamaha Team +0.223; 3. Marco Melandri (ITA) Movistar Honda MotoGP +0.239; 4. 15 MAY 2005 - MOTOGP RACE

NAKANO EIGHTH IN TOUGH RACE AT LE MANS
Shinya Nakano brought his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR home in eighth place in today's French Grand Prix, after a difficult race on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans.

After qualifying sixth on the second row, Nakano was anticipating challenging for a top five finish in the 28-lap event, which was watched by a near capacity crowd of 75,000.

However, a minor engine problem slowed his ZX-RR from mid-race, forcing Nakano to ride conservatively to ensure a top ten finish.

Teammate and crowd favourite, Olivier Jacque, received a tremendous ovation as he crossed the line in an impressive 11th place in his home race.

This was Jacque's first dry weather race on his Bridgestone-shod Ninja ZX-RR, as the replacement rider for the injured Alex Hofmann, and he continued his steep learning curve after a long layoff from racing.

Jacque started sharply and was quickly into 11th. He held off the factory Honda ridden by Troy Bayliss for 20 laps, before making a small mistake on the brakes at the second chicane.

Finishing strongly with a fast rhythm, Jacque set his fastest time on the penultimate lap as he chased Bayliss to the finish line.

Nakano also started strongly, and was into fifth place and ahead of eventual race winner and world champion Valentino Rossi after two laps.

After holding off a chasing pack Nakano slipped to eighth place, but by mid-race he suffered a small engine misfire that slowed his progress. Over the final laps Nakano held a safe gap of three seconds to Toni Elias, as he rode for valuable championship points.

Today marked the end of Jacque's temporary two-race appearance with Kawasaki, which was highlighted by his superb second place in the Chinese Grand Prix two weeks ago

Shinya Nakano: #56 - Eighth
"My start was fast, I had a good feeling and tyre grip in the early laps and I felt comfortable. But for some laps I had trouble into turn one judging my braking point, I wasn't as fast as I usually am in this part of the track. Then, when my good feeling returned, I felt a small misfire with the engine and immediately thought that I must try and finish the race; I didn't score any points in China two weeks ago, so this was very important."

Olivier Jacque: #19 - Eleventh
"This race was a special experience for me, because it was my first race in the dry on the Kawasaki. I learned a great deal today, which I hope will help in the future if I get another MotoGP opportunity. I made some braking mistakes early on in the race, and then ran up the escape road at the second chicane. Later in the race I found a fast rhythm and just got faster and faster; I'm very happy to finish like that. I tried to catch Bayliss at the end after he passed me, but I just couldn't get close enough."

Harald Eckl: Team Manager
"After Shinya's strong qualifying performance this result is a little disappointing for everyone in the team, as we expected a top six result was possible in the race. The technicians are still checking on Shinya's engine problem, but he heard some noise and felt a misfire, so he did the right thing to ride for points. As for OJ, he did another fantastic race for Kawasaki, with limited testing and practice in the dry. He is still learning about the Ninja ZX-RR and Bridgestone tyres, but he gave us a great result, second in China, which was obviously a highlight for the team."
