tyres for the er6

Postby dickfaber » Fri Dec 02, 2011 6:37 pm

i have an '08 er6f with almost 6k on the clock.
it still has the oem rubber on it, battlax bt-020's, which have always felt spooky and dead when cold and just plain old wooden when warmed; especially on the front.
went for a ride with some mates this arvo after work (cbr1000rr, harley sportster, vf750f, cb400 and a 250 spada) and had a ball. we stopped for a coffee at 1/2 way and one of my mates said i looked nervous of my bikes front end on turn in, then he looked at my front tyre and said "and now i know why, that tyre is so f*cking wrong for the front of yuor bike, get a better one"

so I want to know, what are other people running on the front of their er; and are they happy?

I've had roadsmarts, bridgestone bt023's and now pirelli angel st on mine. all sport touring tyres and all are good. got best feel from the bt023's and will probably go back to them. the mechanic suggested I give the pirellis a go. only done 1000k or so on them they seem to tip in a bit better and are very stable when I get it leant over. the bridgstones felt grippier near the edges which I liked and they are a bit softer near the edges so I don't square them off. all are good in the wet.
bt020s are old tyres. I had bt021s before the bt023s and the 023s are a much better tyre.

Got Shinko Ultrasofts on front of both mine, and same with rear, both have Shinko something else that escapes me right now. Work well and heaps better than the dangerous Dunflops they came out with. Yours must be the faired model to be running Bridgestones. Mate of mine put my first ER6 down the road at 40km/h when the tyre let go in the dry. I had heaps of slides on the originals and binned them with less than 2000km on them. Too dangerous.... :?

Tyres i like, metzler M3s,Dunlop roadsmarts,Metzler m5s ( if i can get a set to do more than 200 ks with out getting a bloody puncture) just bad luck.Bridgestone 003s.Not a fan of michellins have tried pilot powers little warning before the move a lot, pilot road 2s ok but really dont trust the fronts on this model. But this is just my opinion tyres are like women some like them thin, some like them cuddly, some like them stoned and some like them drunk ;)

Have used Metzeler M3 Front Z6 rear (for longer commuting life) and liked them.
Next set were Michy PR2...these seem softer in the sidewalls so are a little more comfortable for commuting but do not inspire confidence.
Will probably try the Metzeler M5 next. :kuda:
If I had lots of money I would go the Bridgy R10 but even with my slow pace they would not last long.

What do you want out of your tyres?

Out and out dry grip? Mix of dry and wet grip? Long life?

Welcome back, Unc ..

I suggested Macadams, but when we rang Michelin to find a distributor, they said all their stock had been bought up by some bloke named Neville.

You wouldn't have his number, by any chance ?
