Thanx mr Gosling for putting up a magnificent round of pix.Makes me even sadder not being able to go.
One thing though. The 'Daytona Special' RD400 is probably a 1980 G model. The Daytona,1979 F model, had the TZ style red stripe down the middle of the front guard/tank/ductail.No kDaytonas came into Aust, the 400 came in as a "plain jane" '79 RD400F,though in actual fact it was what the Yanks got as a Daytona Special.
Hope this doesn't confuse things too much.
Thanx again, great pix great bikes,it was really a mgical time to ride a bike. hello.gif
I luurrve the smell of 2stroke in the mornin'.

Just a couple of notes on your pics Gos, and they are real fine too.

The blue TX500 belongs to a good mate, we rebuilt the motor just one week before we headed off to the ral from Bris, it didn't miss a beat, only the very first model had the head prob, the next one that came out was sorted, and that is the same deal with the TX750, they would froth the oil due to a small sump, the next model came out with a bigger sump and fixed the prob.

The bike you called a black bomber is not a bomber, it is a CB450K3, the bomber is the very early models with drum front brake, like the one with the maroon helmet on it, which happens to be my bike, and yes I rode that from bris too.

The CB500 twin belongs to a vjmc past president, he bought that new and it has never been restored, he just keeps it highly polished. Although about 50cc larger than my 450 bomber the 500 is slower due to gaining weight.

The 350/4 is pretty original except the colour, I have a red one in my garage, it is listed for sale at netbikes.

it could have easily won its class if he had entered mate ! really excellent condition, it was good to catch up with him at this gig....

I didn't mate, but saw him post up on FB that he was there on Saturday ! It will probably be in the same place next year, not sure on the date, but I hope its not 1 week after WSB !!! Next year there is a massive MadMax rally in Victoria being held the weekend after Superbikes, so PC and myself will be riding to that after WSB......

Glad that everyone else enjoys the photos :D , I got about 80? on the day, there were heaps more bikes but I stuck with all the classy ones.....thanks for the tips about the Daytona as well Stu- I have a 79 F model in the 4th with that colour scheme - has the alloy tank as well - the guy I got it from reckoned it was a dinkum 'Daytona' model, I think it even has a 1-piece head ?? will need to check that to confirm......it looks a lot different to my other air-cooled RD's anyway.......

Yeah thanks for posting these,
i really enjoyed going through them, several times.I was on my l's in the eighties and couldn't afford an lc like my mates had(apprentice wages). So i bought a 72 Gt 250 Suzuki,
i loved that thing, but craved some of these other bikes.Good to see them in such good nick
