I have never been at any Motor sport event in Oz where anyone has ever cheered when a competitor was injured. Sure, we all like to see them crash or fall of.... but.... with the proviso that the competitor is OK. Anywhere I have ever been where someone has crashed an injured themselves, all I have ever heard is concern at any event here in Oz. Perhaps it is those I chose to associate with, perhaps I have been blind, But I have never seen cheering over an injured person.

Sure, a rider or driver has a near miss and walks away and then the crowd cheers.... I have seen that.... but if they didn't cheer, I would expect that they would also be the same ones who would cheer in the event of something serious.

NT you are right in as far as we all like to see the aliens take it to the edge, but we never wish them to fall off.........

I read that comment from that female, we all go to or watch racing be two or four wheels, and yes when we see a crash, we cran our necks to see, but myself, and i would go so far to say everyone on this forum, never goes to see and hope for bad crashes, thats just insane.
Good close hard fought racing, yes, thats what its about.
And yes we kno the risks be it racing, track days or road riding, or whatever else we like to do that has risks, shit we all take a risk just getting in the car going to work.

Jill singer - Herald sun wrote: I (foolishly) tweeted my doubts about the genuineness of this outpouring of grief and suggested the sport thrives on crashes.

To be sure, my sentiments could have been expressed more sensitively, but in the angry barrage of abuse that followed, it surprised me that no one could admit they actually enjoy the inherent dangers of track racing. To do so would obviously expose the inner ghoul of spectators. Time and again I was told that people don't watch for the crashes.

But it's not just squeamish women such as me (and I have seen more than enough road trauma in my life) who suspect that some people are getting off on the carnage.

No Jill the sport thrives on watching the best in the world do what a lot of us would like to be able to do as part of our passion for riding and for the sport, we marvel at the bravery and skill, as a result of pushing man and machine to the limits the inevitable crashes will happen, unfortunately some result in serious injury or a death.

Crashes will happen and I cant look away either but hope that they are ok and can continue racing and admire there mindset to get back on and race without noticeable effect. Not one person I know watches for a death.

The response on tweet would have been a good tip that she hit a nerve and got it wrong yet she continued with this article :?
Irresponsible uninformed sensationalising opportunism IMO (remind's me of Catherine Deveny and her demise at the Age newspaper because of a few tweet comments)

But everyone is entitled to their opinion, wrong or right as it may be, she has now become the defendant in the court of public opinion that she contributes too and leeches a living off.

It seems to me JS is the only one getting off on the carnage.

That statement is as subjective as the article you are upset about. Just because you don't know them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

No-one I know tortures fluffy kittens.

Actually I am not upset just disappointed by a respected journalist's comments and trying to understand her perhaps emotional and personal motive.

I know a small few that enjoy getting off on big disasters and worse enjoying the human suffering.

How do kittens have any relevance to racing? :?

I agree, about as subjective as her statement Daisy but anyone who does watch Moto GP hoping for a death will have on average a wait of 2 years to see it so hardly worth it.
