New Shoes.........

Postby swabio-ACT » Wed Aug 17, 2011 1:33 am

Well..............decided that the near slicks I was running had well and truly passed their use by date....... and treated the mighty Rex to some new shoes........... ended up getting the Pilot Road 3's, as the Pilot Road 2's did an outstanding job over the last 18k km's ......... and thought i'd try the latest version.............. have not scrubbed them in fully yet........ hopefully tomorrow will see a Mt Mee special scrub in session....... otherwise will have to wait until the weekend!

Just got a set of them myself. Never used sport tourers before. Hardest thing I've used previously were the Metzeler M1s. So I'm assuming that the main differences are because of that. But the tires are very round. Makes them very stable and the hold a line well when in the corner. They also make for easy tight steering in multistory carparks. But getting the things leaned over is a lesson in negotiation. And getting the bike back upright is a delicate balance of expletives and prayer. Makes for a lot of re-evaulation of corners. If you got 18k out of the road 2s, and I just got 12k out of my powers, this could be a long and interesting relationship. Not to mention the headshake that gradually gets more noticable above 60kph.

Ive got em, and they are tops. I had the 2s before and these are better.

Not sure by what is the problem with your cornering? Roll in and roll out, at speed or slow with full lean or not, no issue.

Headshake? Tyre not balanced properly?

And yes they will last you a long time.

Hope they improve for you.

Swabio, a great choice.

Well................. didn't get to scrub them in properly.............. but did a quiet run out to kilcoy today......... with the mrs on the back, so no craziness through the hallowed hotmix of Mt Mee, but was a nice ride none the less! The tyres certainly felt good and I was happy with the turn in and level of grip.......... although was taking it pretty easy to avoid repetitive hitting of the helmet from the rear.......... managed to lose a couple of the cafe poser scene through the twisty bits..

Good to hear. Chitchat: am assuming the shake is a balance thing as well. And I assume the turn in stuff is just geometry. Without putting them side-by-side, I think these are just less triangulated than I am used to.
