Anodised Surfaces.

Postby Nanna10r » Wed May 04, 2005 8:44 pm

Anothe question for all you clever Buggers

Considering Repainting "Tiggr's" Brake Carriers n Calipers. they are Currnetly a Dull boring Gold which doesnt match a damn thing on the bike.

So whats the Go ?

I know they are Anodised for a reason, paint doesnt pinch n Crack on assembling n also is more duarable then paint. But i wanna change the colour to Black n dont want to spend the money getting them re anodised.

So Any ideas on best way to remove the Anodised coating n applying Enamel paint after an etch primer would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Brett

The anodising should come off pretty easily with a quick bead blastin, but just make sure you plug all holes etc as not to pit the important bits. You know, just like Neka does with ya mum. ;) lol

Brett, if you took off the parts that were to be blasted yourself it'd probably cost about $30. It certainly wouldn't take long to do.

Anodising can be painted over with minimal preparation. A bit of sanding, primer and it wil be fine.. You could acid bath em if you really wanted..
Just remember the paint will wear much quicker than anodising...

Take em to a powder coater and they will acid bath and paint em for ya. Powder coat will wear better than enamel.

Thanks for the Advice guys. Much appreciated moneys a bit tight atm n the since I'm messing around with the new brake pads thought i might give it a whirl as a tempory job till i get the rims painted n see what they look like. Maybe pay to get them done properly then.

I'd go for powdercoating myself.
