Hi Guys,

I just brought myself a 2005 636 and have a few questions and need some opinions.

- When does the thermo fan supposed to come on? The manual states 95 but mine doesnt come on until 105.
- What type of luggage do you have? I've just ordered a bagster tank cover and bag, what about tail luggage?
- Oil and serving suggestions.
- Fuel economy? Currently I'm getting around 260kms
-Any general tips and tricks?

Mine comes on at 105 too. The bike runs a little hotter than my last bike (an '01 ZX6), but it seems like it's just the bike's way, not a fault

I use an Oxford tail pack and a tank bag for big trips. Small trips I just use a backpack. Bigger luggage is a bit harder on the '05 636, depending on your exhaust. I can't fit a Ventura rack with my Two Brothers exhaust. And there was an unfortunate incident when the tail got taped up to avoid the occy straps from rubbing (attaching the tail pack to the pillion pegs), but when the tape was removed, the paint came up with it - so be warned!

Servicing? I've always paid someone else. I'm getting a major service done this week, but I've decided to do the next minor one myself (under supervision). Where are you located? You may get either an offer of assistance to help service it, or a recommendation of a good workshop to do it

- Fuel economy? Currently I'm getting around 260kms
That's about right for a mix of spirited riding and slower traffic riding. If it was all spirited riding, expect it to drop down a bit

Ride it like the manufacture intended and prepare to be grinning for ever more and becoming a totally biased and one-eyed 6 fan.
If you decide to chuck a 120/70 tyre on the front, instead of the standard 120/65, you'll need to adjust the suspension to keep the handling sweet as.

Tail luggage.... If you want something easy to put on and off ........ this seat bag is big enough for a helmet and a bit more.........

I'm located slightly west of brisbane. I've been looking at exhausts as well, recommend the Two brothers? or are they all "pretty much" the same?

When buying oil, will just one 4lt container be sufficient? What was your average service cost?

Nothing is sexier than the 2 Bros, but I'm just a titch biased on that point I love the sound and the look.
There's quite a few other nice exhausts though - and they all make the arse of the 636 look sexy

4lt bottle is enough - but if you're going to do your own service, you'd better grab a manual or do a bit of research before starting. I haven't had an average service yet, to be honest. Probably guesstimate at around $250 for a minor and you should get away with under $500 for a major service.

Hi folks..does the thermo fan kick in at 105 for an 06 636 model as well? Just noticed mine does not kick in even at 106 107 . Wondering if something not working right on the bike.

well its the same model so just a year after... might just be a quirk of your bike, or maybe there is something different with the thermo stat

Hmm interesting, my 05 turns on at 100 and doesn't turn off until it hits 98

the way to check the thermo switch is to remove it and put it in a pot on the stove.
suspend it from a wire or something so its not touching the bottom or sides. Stick a thermometer in the water so you know what temp the water is up to.

Connect a multimeter to the connectors of the switch and measure the resistance. The resistance for certain temps are in the manual which i dont have access to right now, but when i get home and find it i can post back up.

just had a look at the manual and looks like the testing the connectors and swtich is alot easier than testing the thermo..so i might start there

Fan Switch Resistance:
Rising Temperature From OFF to ON @93 ∼ 103°C (199 ∼ 217°F)
Falling Temperature Fan stops with the temperature 3 ∼ 8°C (38 ∼ 46°F)
lower than the operation temperature range.
ON: Less than 0.5 Ω
OFF: More than 10 MΩ
