Glue fior fairings?

Postby zx-10r » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:25 am

Want to glue a few small pieces of my fairing back together. Funny, my hand hitting the fairing did more damage than it sliding down the road :?

Is there good plastic specific glue reccomended?
Some people probably have some experience with repairing cracked fairings  :kuda:

don't use glue, you need to have it plasti welded.

Another option is to check the type of plastic your fairing is made from - you may be able to chemically weld it. On my 500 and 900 the fairings are ABS - I dissolved some lego blocks in acetone, used a dremel to clean the areas to be mated and applied the sludge carefully.

Because it melts the existing fairing and fills any gap with the abs (lego) it effectively becomes one piece :) Allow it to set, sand back, fill (if necessary) and prep for paint.

Q-Bond has also been recommended to me but I'm yet to try it - have it sitting here ready to go tho.

plasti weld is another option....I just wasn't very good at it lol
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

I have used a soldering iron and a piece of old fairing to weld to good effect before, but I like the lego acetone idea, I will give that a go next time.

I use Plastex for all small plasticy things
its good stuff
http://www.racewear.com.au/product/subc ... .cgi?sc=34
as the ad sez........
Plastex easily glues, fills gaps, repairs stripped threads and can remake tabs or small parts in just minutes.
Only Plastex has a reusuable molding bar that gives you the ability to repair or reproduce almost any plastic
part quickly and easily. Plastex can repair almost anything made of hard plastics (ABS, polycarbonate acrylic, vinyl chloride, FRP polyester).
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

I can vouch for plastex. Used it on my keyfob for my car remote. The plastic weld hasn't failed yet, just the plastic around it has finally cracked again, after four and a half years of daily abuse.

I've had great results with Plastex on the ole CRB hugger. Haven't had to use it since, thankfully.
