custom exhaust, coolant fluid drain in zxr250

Postby Amir » Thu Oct 28, 2010 10:45 pm

Hey Kawaski riders i am new to this forum.
Loving my time here :)

Just bought a yr 2000 zxr250... rides like a dream..
i was looking to get some slip on aftermarket exhaust for it...
does anyone know a cheaper place to get them... its hard to find aftermarket exhausts for this particular model even on ebay... i am wonering if exhausts from other models will fit it???

My other Qustion was: how can i change the coolant oil.... like i dn't know which bolt to open to drain the old fluid out of my engine and radiator... I would greatly appreciate your responses :)

Feel free to share any general advice about lifestyle of motorcycling...

Mate

What type of ZXR is it.. you got a photo... I'm assuming it's a grey import, probably manufactured around 89-91

Custom exhaust I'm not aware of, you can get some made up though.. Megacycle can make them up.... Give them a search they're out east somewhere of Victoria.

As far as draining the coolant out of the radiator, just undo the clamp on the rubber hose at the bottom of the radiator on the LHS (usually). Let it all run out.

As for oil, theres a sump plug usually on the bottom of the engine (you'll have to take fairing off) usually around a 17mm socket.. With bikes of that age, it'll probably have a internal oil filter as well you'll need to take out and replace.. Usually located pretty close to the sump plug.

Tnx Duwan
it is a zxr250 c manufactured in 2000... u r rite it is a grey import...
i guess i am ok with changing the engine oil... but i was really worried about the coolant fluid coz it has gone really brown... now that you hv showed me how i can drain it... i will flush it real good and fill it up with some new fluid.........

i will appload some photos soon :)

yesterday i checked in peter stevens, dandenong, they gave me a quot of $400 and a month wait for a stainless steel exhaust... i reckon that is a bit too expensive...

No worries mate..

You sure it was manufactured in 2000?? That might just be the compliance plate.. Photos would help determine the actual age.

Brown is usually an indication that theres corrosion in your radiator. If you notice it spring a leak or start losing coolant you might need to get it repaired. There is a place near dandenong that reco radiators. Can't remember their name I think it's something similar to race radiators or something.

Ring Megacycle and ask them how much for just the can. I'd say it'd probably be cheaper than going through P/S.

zxr250 should have an external oil filter. My 250A model had external..

If you can pick yourself up a cheap pipe perhaps an ebay "special" then take it to an exhaust shop and get them to custom fabricate up a link pipe for you! Simple.. Prob wouldnt cost that much more than $100-$200 for a link pipe

So i can get any pipe for any model bike and just get it custom fabricated??? because it is hard to find exhausts for zxr250... would it work if i get pipe from zx6r??? or something similar???
true it has an external oil filter... what has got me concerned is the coolant fluid... i will fush it once hoping it will turn out OK...
but if it gets brown again i will go fix the radiator professionally as "Duan" advised me...

I got another Question:
After i fill up the radiator an the reservoir with new fluid, do i need to open a bolt or soemthing to let the air out of radiator or engine???

well why not (for the exhaust)?? Its all just metal.. If you have a muffler that you like the look of, then i am sure there is an exhaust shop out there who is handy enough to rig up a bracket to hold the muffler on and make a link pipe to go from the muffler to the stock headers.

You might wanna flush the radiator out. Take the top cap off the radiator and the bottom hose off and jam a hose in and run the water thru the radiator to flush it out... Put some coolant in and top her up!
I cant remember if there is a drain bolt on the bottom of the radiator. But on the water pump there should be a bolt u can take out that will let you drain the entire system without taking any hoses off.

Also remember you have to bleed the air out of the cooling system before finishing up. Reason is if you get air bubbles stuck in the system they can over heat and cause problems like cracks or damage in the block etc etc.
