Another ZRX Hoodlum

Postby Arkup » Fri Sep 24, 2010 6:21 pm

G'day everyone. I am new to this Forum thingy but it looks like a good place to start. I have a 08' ZRX 1200R and a Z1000J forgotton era Racebike. The racebike used to be my roady before the REX. I crashed the racebike last year at Oran Park and have been occupied getting it ready again for next season after a bit of panel beating and a few mods.....it's "development" I tell my Missus. She rides as well and has a Suzuki GSR600. I keep showing her the new Z1000 brochure but she hasn't caught on yet.
I bought the ZRX new in October 08 and has 6,000KM on her at the moment, she is still a stocker but the list is growing for future "development"
Anyway I hope to see a few of you on the road soon.

P.S. Long Flat Pub run. November 26th, 27th.

Cheers people. Yeah the j is a great bike. I put GSXR wheels and brakes on in 1999 and 41mm forks off a TRX850 yam. i always had in mind to put it on the track, it just took a few years to get my act together. I tell you what, the 17 inch wheel change and some good shocks, made a hell of a difference the old girl in the handling department.

And on the seventh day Richo ended his work which he had made. Decided resting was for soft cox, straddled the REX and headed up the old road.
And it was good

Right on brother!
Welcome aboard arkup. Get the old "J" race set up & get her out in forgotten era racing with Phillis, Cambell, Gardner & company.
Now for the new boy. Ive got a bolt on Remus CF muffler, re-jet & a advancer plate, What a differance.
Did the suspension added some crash knobs & & a taller screen, I now have a great sports tourer, or a weekend knee dragger.
Fills both rolls perfectly.
One day we'll get a ZRX run going,& have a meet & greet..Again welcome.. ;)

Sman, I was running the J last year with the pcra but only did a few meetings. I blew a perfecly good engine at E.C. in practice at the Barry sheene,(running too lean) so it took a few monthsto get another engine together because I needed a new crankshaft and top end $$$$$. Then at the last meeting at O.P. in October last year I trowelled it at the kink before sutton corner. Injury pulled me up this year, I came off second best.. but the bike isn't too bad. That was in the second heat of the unlimiteds P5 & P4, where me and Keith Higgs had to start at the back of the field because of DNF in the first heat,( battery problem) he got away, but I got caught up coming off the bridge and came across 2 real slow blokes right at the wrong time. I would have had to bin it any way to avoid hitting them both because I was fully "commited" and flat out in 4th through the kink when they appeared in my vision..I couldn't slow down fast eneough and any way she lost the front wheel and lowsided before the inevitable but I was only a few meters behind when I went down. 8 days in Liverpool Hospital 5 of in I.C.U. and 3 months off work pulled me up for the season this year.
On a brighter note, I'm diggin' the ZRX and you are on the money Jetpilot, especially with the old bloke thing.
I am just about to change the first set of tyres on her and was thinking of goingthe Pilot road 2's.... any opinions? I have always used Bridstones but the front on it at the moment wore fairly quickly until I fiddled with the suspension settings and half sorted it, that will be the first thing I spend on the thing. Get the forks done.

Ive got a Bridgie BT015 on the rear, & it hooks up really well, but man does the ZRX eat them up. Im sticking a Pilot Power on next week.
Pilot 2TC are very good, I did a track day on them & was very happy with their performance.
You'll find the standard suspension comes up a bit short of execptable  Ok for just chuggin around, but if you push on it''ll get ugly real quick, but you'll find that out soon enough for yourself.
Back to the racing, I sort of rememeber your crash, did the chopper come for you, of someone else?
Hope your getting better, come on up my way for a ride one day, we can talk bikes & old times. ;)

I have all confidence in the 020 Bridgestones but have heard the Pilot 2's are good and have the softer compound on the edges. I'm interested in trying something different as well. Most of my riding is the Putty or up to Gloughster, sometimes the Oxley but mainly the Putty Rd, cos' its close to home.
The REX gets a good head shake up when pushed hard but I find the rear pretty good, just the front needs attention at the moment. Even a steering damper wouldn't go a stray i am thinking. My crash was at the end of the day it was only an ambo job... I remember asking the bloke in the ambulance if they could take me to Maitland Hospital instead of Liverpool, but they wouldn't be in it.... wonder why?? All healed up now just waiting to get back out there..

I ride .......err.....briskly ......on most outings on my Rex and find that the PR2's work exceptionally well with a ZRX. I usually get about 3500-5000 out of a sports tyre on the back of the rex, but with PR2's, I can coax minimum 8K out of a rear. As for grip, I have never had an issue. Wet or dry. Phil, who has forgotten more than most know about motorcycles runs Metzlers and loves them and others like bridgies. I've never been a Michelin fan, but must give credit where credit is due. PR2's are feckin brilliant.
