zx7r electrics

Postby 98ninja » Thu Sep 16, 2010 1:21 pm

i pulled the zx7r apart to raise the rear end and now that ive put it back together it wont start.
i put the key in the ignition and the dash doesnt even light up.
ive put it all back together exactly as it was before, or at least i think i have.
i have no idea where to start to fix this or how to fix it.

Start with the easy stuff. Battery terminals connected and tight. All of the plugs you pulled apart back together with the ones they came off. Fuses. If all that's right come back for some help from someone else :kuda:.

Are you getting blinkers or headlights or brake lights or anything? Or nothng at all?

I had a problem with this a few years ago on my seven. If it isnt all the obvious things like battery terminals and fuses might try looking into the actual ignition barrel itself. I had to pull the barrel apart and resolder the brown wire from memory. It looked like it was caused by the wiring being a little short and pulling as the the bars were turned. May not be the problem but thought id let you know what happened on the same model.

Hi Mate
Check out the main starter rely fuse, follow the main positive cable from the battery to the first relay which is the starter relay, under the cover there is a fuse located in that relay.
If you have accidently shorted the battery at any time while you were pulling it apart that would be the first fuse to blow.
Failing that check the rest of the fuses out in the fuse box near the battery, if you havent already.
Cheers

Have you removed the left hand switch block for indicators,etc..???
If so plug it back in to main loom and clutch lever switch...
If this is the problem and you don't want to use the switch block you will just have to loop the conector clip on the loom with a wire ...

Did exactly that today... Took me 2 weeks to find that fault, because it had previously be done by another owner and i stipped the bike and more than likely knocked of the plug or took it out threw it away....

Join the clear 2 pin plug on the left hand side with some wire and test if that is it.. If so just make a permanent bridge.. From memory it is the yellow wire with a green stip and a the nuteral wire, aqua colour...
There are those that have and, those that will....

my initial problem was i hadnt reconnected the earth wire to the battery.............
after the last rainy trackday the electrics got wet and it blows the ignition fuse.
i did 4 laps that day and with much help, looked around for the problem and blew another 5 or so 10 amp fuses
within 5 minutes of the thing being started.
a 15 amp fuse lasted a bit longer, but as soon as i rev the thing it blows the ignition fuse.
