New In Town (not to be taken literally)

Postby slaps999 » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:56 pm

Hi All,
I've just returned to biking after a 10 year absence (except for some dirt biking, CR250....does that count??). The itching got too bad and my wife ran out of furniture to buy and renovations to do, so I was allowed a small amount to go and find a bike. Anyway, the short version is I came across a very nice silver/black 2001 ZRX1200S with only 40,000 on the dial, which I picked up 2 months ago, but with the current weather in Melbourne, all I do is look and polish. It's probably the best bike I've been on, with maybe the exception of a 1976(approx) Ducati GT750. I've been riding since early '70s with various bikes, and have been fortunate enough to have been able to ride mates early 750 Hondas, 500 Hondas, Bonnevilles, Norton 850's and Kwaka Z900's and also the nutter bike, Kwaka H3,750 2 stroke triple with neutral at the bottom of the shift pattern. My last 2 bikes in backwards order: '89 Honda CBR1000F & '78 Suzuki GS1000E.

I'm way too old (50 ++) to go scratching these days and been down the road quite a few times as a result, but still enjoy finding a few windy's to try and get value for money from the sides of my tyres. Also my grandkids like to see me in one piece.

In case you're wondering about "slaps99". That's from a very cheeky daughter in law at my 50th and it involved a form of charades, a large open fire and an even larger quantity of bourbon. I guess you had to be there. My real name is Joe.

Anyway, I'll look forward to catching up on news and also the technical areas. I'll also look forward to getting some merchandise, next time you get something organized.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Fucking oath he has!!!! :D :D And....it's still THE BEST BIKE I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!!!!! and I have had a few!!!!

I'm not far off your stage of life either Joe. I also have two grandkids! But, I still like to scratch like a one armed taxi driver with crabs!!!! Although, I really would like to see the grandkids grow up, I am still willing to take some small risks!! Plus, when riding a motorcycle with as much ability as a ZRX1200 has, it's a given that you can go fast without too much risk taking!

Keep your eye on the rides section Joe. About twice a year, sometimes a little less, one of the Victorian members will take their bike out of the shed. (OK, so it's usually ony to wash it!!) ;)

I used to ride regularly, but age has made me a little irregular!!! However, now that I live in the eastern suburbs, the foothills sos to speak, I intend increasing the regularity of my rides. 8)

And her tis!!!

Welcome Joe, you'll like it here :kuda:

"small risks" Marty  don't forget returning riders in our age group are over represented in
"the" statistics
Mainly because there were no Indian taxi drivers around when we got our licenses

Thank you one and all for such a warm welcome to an old fart hitting his 2nd childhood (so my wife & kids tell me). It's very nice to be back in the biking fold. 10 years away is a long time and now that I have a closer think about it and it's been pointed out to me by my family, Ive found it's actually closer to 13 yrs.

Thanks again

So we keep being told :kuda: Then again with the EC handicap rule that evens things out doesnt it?
Really that rule of 1 sec per lap just means Im 50 secs behind instead of 30
