ZX-9R Carb Jets....some second opinions

Postby StevieD » Fri Jul 30, 2010 8:16 pm

I've just picked up my bike from the mech after the bike stopped on me, after I stopped at the lights, it started again but only after a few minutes of kicking it over then it flew, so the mech has looked it over and took the carb apart and cleaned it up and has discovered that the Jets are aftermarket and are not performing correctly (old), i.e. they're spraying an oval not a circle, so they may be causing the bike to stall/stop after riding for a short period, his suggestion was to replace the carbie with another one from a 99 ZX-9R to go back to the standard Jets.

My Question to all with more knowledge than me, do I need to get another carbie altogether with the standard jets in it or am I able to get some Jets to replace whats in there now, are they able to be removed?

I just happen to have a full set of carbs for a C model 9 that still have std jetting in them, make me an offer and the whole set of carbs is yours. I also have another set with a jet kit but I promised them to Gos for his project GPz1000RX ;)

Your mechanic is spot on mate........ it's not the needles that are oval but the emulsion tubes(which on the 9 are not replaceable) hence the recommendation to get new carbies.
3rd party needles are usually the culprit as they are made of a harder material than stock ones and damage the tubes

Tis the price we pay for improved performance
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

How much are they worth?

I wouldn't have a clue on how much to offer and I wouldn't want to offend you if I made a stupid offer, I'm interested in them tho

What price range are you interested in?
