1994 ZXR 750 fairing info?

Postby JamesLaugesen » Fri Apr 08, 2005 9:40 am

Hi guys, I tried searching for this already answered but no luck, sorry for the repeated question if it has.

I'm curious in the fairing mounting difference between the ZXR 1994< and ZX7R 1996> ?
I'm aware that the ZX7R is considered a completely revamped bike, but from photos (only seen photos so far) and specs it seems possible to mount '96 fairings to a '94?

I'm asking because I have only see carbon fairings for 96+

Thanks
James

Anything's possible, but to mount the ZX7R fairings you'll probably have to make custom fairing brackets.

If you're looking through the online catalogues of outfits like QB Carbon, Harris etc, the reason you're seeing what you're seeing would be because these mobs have now long since retired their ZXR750 fairing moulds to the backs of their warehouses... few people are going to blow three grand for hyper-trick carbon bodywork for a 10-12-year-old bike.

The thing is, if you contacted these guys, or even Geelong Carbon Composites and asked them directly if they can knock up a set of fairings for a ZXR, they'd probably be able to do it, as they'd have the moulds.

That said, however, you'd be better off becoming mates with people in the racing scene, one of whom will know a bloke whose sister married the mate of the borther of a guy who used to race a ZXR750 as a B-grader before his bricklaying career took off and who still has some of his ex-TKA carbon fairing in his attic.

As for compatibility... there was a ZXR on Ebay recently wearing a ZX-7R top fairing mated to ZXR sides, so there's some overlap between the two.

Thanks heaps I-K. Your post will send me well on my way I think :D
When the time comes it'll be a decision between black resin coloured fibreglass or carbon.
At least now I know that I could get some done up, and the new fairings can be fitted. Woo.

Exciting day.

Cheers

James here is a quote I just got from racers edge fiberglass (sydney) for my ZXR750 93
A full set of race panels including an upper, belly, screen, front guard &
ductail is $895
Ther are doing a set for me as we type.
Let me know if you need more info...
+ they have a green for the gel coat very close to the original so i can save weight in not painting.

Rob,
I hope you have time on your hands when you pick them up. There a really nice couple who run racers edge and luv a chat. They should have a few KSRC stickers around too, I left them a bundle to give out with any kawi fairings they sell.

Thanks for that Robb, that's a nice price ay.
I'll be needing a street set though until I can afford another bike :(
Will they (at RACERS edge) cut the fairings for street too?
Do they have a website I can look at? It's still very up-in-the-air right now so I don't want to go directly wasting someone's time with common questions, haha.

Yes James they do street fairings & yes dave they like a chat (big time)
Turns out they want me to do some stuff for them so Im happy.

Web address is http://www.racersedge.com.au

They dont have all the ZXR details available on the site...

Have seen the quality of their work & would have no hesitations in recommending them... Its a family run business so its in their best interests to do the right thing. :D

According to them the moulds for the ZXR havent been used in years so they are happy someone wants to use them.... they are getting a few calls for the older bikes as a new class has opend in Post Clasic Racing allowing bikes up to 1995 to race under the club banner.
