Mini HD Cam & Mount

Postby Richo » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:29 pm

Ok .. so I went out and bought myself a couple of toys to play with . . :D

I've always been keen to set up a video camera on the bike somehow and get some good footage. Also be able to easily transfer to a mates bike if need be.

So ... I went and got myself a Kodak Playsport - Does up to 1080HD at 30fps or 720 at 60fps (720 @ 60fps I think would be better as slow mo shots should be awesome 8) ) - Its a very light weight unit, about the size of a mobile phone and even water proof to 3M (thinking about rain/mud etc) . . .

Now .. how to mount it :?

After a bit of web searching, I came across the "Fat Gecko" which attaches via a couple of suction cups, which made me a little nervous about it vibrating loose, but after checking their website and seeing that it stands up to 200MPH stuck to a plane  I figured it should be ok for the rex.

Havnt set it up on the bike yet, just got the mount and have stuck it to my office window

Gonna try it out on Fridays Putty run 8) 8) 8)

And on the seventh day Richo ended his work which he had made. Decided resting was for soft cox, straddled the REX and headed up the old road.

The Playsport was $220 and the mount was $150 .. bit pricey on the mount, but it sticks to anything. Im thinking the tank primarily, but it would hold very well onto fairings or rear cowl for the reverse shots 8)

Im sure you could get both a tad cheaper via ebay or the like ... but I was too impatient

Ummm ... yeah I spose  If you are after a bit of shower action - Cam is waterproof too :?

I did, but they were a bit too bulky for my liking

Plus, the gopro is about US$300 for a HD Cam that isnt water proof ... the Kodak is US$150 ;)

Cool Richo will be good to see what creative ways you can use it.

I remember someone on here having a shot of the forks loooking forward and thought that was fantastic to see the suspension working. Fairing mount I suppose?

that was a lippie cam attached to the underside of one of the fairing 'wings' on the MFP12. Here is the video....

That suction mount looks pretty big ?

Looking forward to seeing some footage from this camera :kuda:

Yeah ... tis big :?

Fits on the tank real nice .. .both suck cups can be adjusted to different angles which is cool ... .but on the bike ... can only fit to either tank or rear cowl at this stage as no fairings to stick to .... but such is the price of being sexy n naked ;)

Will be great to get some Tard action Russ ..... Needless to say I'll have to swivel the camera to point rearwards for that yeah?
