It's probably in the nose in front of the instruments. That's where the 2007 ZX6's are.

Like Glen said it's in the nose. It's a small black box half the size of a matchbox screwed onto the top of the ram air duct on the 6, with a big black plug in it and thick black wire coming out of it.

Putting back together a crashed bike with problems like this try to get your hands on the service manual on the net. If this is the probLem then it's telling the control unit the bike is on it's side so it won't start.

There's a number of other things which can also do that like the side stand switch and neutral feedback.

On the technical side of it there's a thorough diagnostic process to follow in the service manual for tracking down issues like this and methods for fixing physical and electrical problems with the device. For the 08 zx6r the control chip wants to see around 4V returned back for a positive signal from the tip sensor. In my bike the tip over sensor was smashed in the crash but the part that remained in the plug back to the control unit had the voltage divider resistors to return a positive logic 4v. I got a replacement out of the states chucked
in for free when I brought a subframe. From memory they go for around US$20.

same deal with the Barge (2005 ZX12R) - small black box mounted under the main fairing bracket, below the instruments.

Old mate at the dealer told me to give it a shake  until I could hear a rattle inside

well I did, and what do you know, bike started straight away.......this was after a minor excursion with a couple of flat spins and a reverse 2 3/4 backflip with a twist of lemon....
