ZX-7R Fuel Issue??

G'day Guys,

I recently aquired a '96 ZX7R that hasnt seen daylight or the road since January this year of a work mate, and after getting it home, I drained the fuel, gave her a new set of plugs, oil and fuel filters, then replaced the battery. The bike's in great condition, she cranks over strongly, but just wont 'catch', but will fire up for a few seconds if i prime the carby's or give her a shot of carby cleaner down the intakes.

To me its screaming fuel, but tested the pump, and it appears to be working.... I unplugged the feed to the carbys put the bike in gear and cranked, and fuel came out the line...

iv also gone through and 'refreshed' the ignition after reading that that can cause problems, but still havn't managed to get her to actually turn over under her own power, as it is.

So, here i am with a gorgeous bike that wants to start, but just cant!

hoping possibly someone would have an idea as to my conundrum.

I read you've "'refreshed' the ignition", but have you confirmed that you're getting a spark on all plugs?
Fuel, compression and ignition are the first obvious things to look for. But you probably already know that... Good luck!

I was at a track day recently and there was a guy with a 95 ZX6 that had a very similar problem. He eventually discovered that his fuel line would kink everytime he put his tank back on, so might be something to check out.

In the end... she just started ?? I guess she wanted to let me know who was boss eh
(It did take a fair bit of cranking and a little SYB)

But, I'm stoked, and pretty excited about taking her round the block for the first time =D

fuel pump relay is on the way out. Swabio has/had the same issues on his 96?ZX6R.....it is a right prick, because it sounds like it just about wants to fire up nicely.......bit won't !
