ProMechA suspension is in the ZRX

Postby s man » Mon Jul 05, 2010 7:08 pm

Well Peter got my suspension done at last, revaleved & resprung, the front & rear units. I just fitted them back in. I havent had a chance to ride it,[only around the block, about 800mts] But I can tell you its a huge difference!!!!!! I could feel the difference just pulling out my driveway. No more thump, bang, going over the gutter, just a smooth soft ride.
When my ribs are a little better I'll do a full road report, including some scratching, highway, & backroad/crap, riding.
The feel in the front is the most noticeable. It just glide's over potholes. Its hard to tell the rear I didnt have time to tune it in a bit. The front comp & rebound, really do something now, not just look good. I had a little play with the rear & you could really feel something was working.[Never use to] So all I can say so far, very impressive.
Stay tuned..

Had my Hornet done at ProMechA. The shocks themselves are great, revalved front and back and approx 3/4" lower as I'm a shortarse.

Only real gripe is that they rounded off one of the corners the big hex 'nut' on one of the front shock caps and didn't tell me. I wouldn't have really minded if they had pointed it out, but they didn't say a word. It''s not that noticable but once you know it's there it shits you, especially since the part was anodised blue and the rounded-off corner is silver...

Bit expensive too, but it was worth it.

Did you tell them they rounded the head off & give them the chance to replace it?
Mine came back in mint condition.[as they were sent]
Expencive! your joking. I got quoted from two well know suspension places in Sydney over $1000. Thats why I sent them to VIC ProMechA did the lot for $640 delivered to NSW ! I know if I ever need any other suspension work done, I'll live with the PIA of sending them all the way to VIC..

No, I live half-way to Bendigo, and they are approx an hour the other side of Melbourne in the middle of damn nowhere. Once I'm there I'm stuck there (there's eff-all around their factory). So as such couldn't really be arsed. As I said I didn't notice for a week anyway.

Mine was (from memory) about $560.

FWIW it was the blue piece on my right shock in the picture below. It's on the inside hidden by cables.

One of the other guys on here had some gripes about them, they gave him the run-around when he tried getting his Z1000 done. Never had any trouble myself though.

You just went to the wrong places ;) Although saying that I have ridden a ZRX with ProMecha work and it was quite good.

I had my suspension on the Rex done by (Suspensions are us) in Devon Meadows, Race tech springs in the front and shocks revalved, big improvment but I wouldn't say it was soft.

Give Terry Hayes a call for a quote & see how much change out of 1k you get. He wont revalve as you have to machine to front damper rods, & then reweld them.
Also call James at Zenodamper. If you can get a F&R revalve & respring for under a grand your laughing.
Remember its easy to just fit a set of Ohlins forks & shocks & be happy. But you aint gonna do that for under $700. ;)

Anyway I am just passing on my finding, if anyone else has done the same job to their ZRX lets here it.

Ask Nelso how much he paid ;)

Just so you know I had my stock forks revalved and they are great, I got the Ohlins later on cause i had been working my ass off and got a little bonus, and didnt want it to disapear into the mortgage - and I'd always wanted some. I dont see any problem with that  and at no stage had I mentioned you - or anyone for that matter should "just fit a set of Ohlins" ;)

As I said before there are guys that do quality work for a reasonable price - just ask the guys I have pointed in the right direction......Matt Chan, Nelso and a few others. Ask if they are happy what was done for them for the $$ they were charged before slagging me off

I agree bout Shock Treatment - and a few others you didnt mention ;)

Phil your reading something that isnt there. I didnt slag anyone mate.
I simply stated I had quotes off two other well known suspension places & they were at least twice the price, & in fact one wouldnt do the front valve mod.

As for the Ohlins statment, again, I simply ment, I could have spent a small fortune on Ohlins gear, but this was the most cost efffective option. How that relates to you I dont know? :?
Anyway if your not interested in what I have to say dont respond. I was explaining to those that are & own ZRXs my finding & way of fixing what is sub standard suspension IMO. To make a half way decent setup, for very little money. ;)
Gee talk about reading something thats not there.

See, in my first post I said I'd ridden a bike with Pro Mecha stuff and it was pretty good ;) I was agreeing with you ;) So perhaps we have headed off in a different direction that was a series of misunderstandings ;)

What I should have said is I have helped a few guys get their forks modded, post 04 are harder due to the different - read cheaper - nature of the internals. 01-03, like mine, can be re-valved very successfully without the use of gold valves or anf that sort of stuff. The later ones not as much so.

As an example, Nelso got new springs front and rear (Ohlins springs on Ohlins shocks) and his forks redone as much as possible for around the $700 mark, I thought that was exceptional value. Matt Chan didnt need new springs and was under $300 from what I remember.

What I was trying to say is that not everyone charges like the places you mentioned ;) In fact I am more than happy to help anyone out with contact details for someone who will look after them - but i'm not posting them up in a public forum ;) In fact Disco is about to have his tackle removed and beefed up a bit

Forgot to add, the most important thing is that you have spent money and are happy with the result, suspension mods are money well spent IMHO. And now I think about I've ridden several ZRX's with Pro Mecha mods, 11's and 12's and they were both way better than stock.

Oh and the reason I thought it related to me was because I have Ohlins, front and rear

Hey Mate,

thanks for the update, cant wait to hear what its like on something like the Putty road in New south, what spring rate in front did Peter fit and how much do you weigh? I wonder if anyone has had one done by Frank Pons (Biketek) in Minto?????? Maybe we can turn this into some sort of expose' on Rex suspension. GOOD feedback on anything suspension with these bikes is always a good thing, mine is due as i am sure are a lot of others. I have done the FactoryPro jetting and a bolt on Yoshi (had to modify the pipe a little) & it has definately made a very decent change to performance as well !

cheers,
A.E.
