custom wiring harness

Postby compact31 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:25 pm

hi all i dont actualy ride a kawi but i will be running a 04 zx10r motor in my new speedway car im building for next season. i bought the motor and everythink needed to have it running but the problem i have is with the wiring harness, all i need is just a harness with no wires for lights ect just the main ones to run the motor. are there any places that can either modify the harness i have or build a custom one, ive started pulling apart the one i have but got to the point of getting stuck as so many of the wires are spliced into each other even after following a user manual. any help would be great.

cheers Rob..

are you going to run FCR's on it as many speedway guys do?

thanks for the relpys. motor will be close to stock, only mods will be modified injectors for mathanol and a power commander. not sure what muffler to run just yet. a racing mate of mine has the same motor but a 05 model with the same mods and it made JUST under 180bhp so ill be happy with around the 170bhp mark. ill see how it runs over the season then ill look at developing the motor futher with a bit of head work and some stronger bottom end parts, unsure of what ill do about the inlet but it looks pretty good for a stock part anyway. my mates building a nother car and will be using a turbo zx6r motor, another guy in our club is building the same thing but twin turbo.

cheers Rob

How do you guys go with preventing piston and ring corrosion from the methanol?. Also because the methanol would need to flow about twice the volume for the same HP as petrol do you use a different fuel pump and injector rail / regulator. I would also assume you increase the compression ratio a fair bit as well?. In any case the wiring harness would not be to difficult of a job, If you were in my area I would do it, But you are best to find someone at your track that does wiring as if you pay someone an hourly rate at an auto electrics place it will kill you. I personally would scrap the power commander and use an aftermarket ECU which would come with a preliminary harnessing anyway or go for 41mm FCR flatslides which are easy to convert to methanol and require none of the above crap then just stick a zx9 or zxr750 etc CDI in with coil on plug configuration. Hope all goes well with it and keep us posted with the mods as this engine sounds interesting. cheers

If you lived down this way (ACT) I would happily do this mod for you.......

My advice would be to run the stock harness in complete OEM form, and just tape off the connectors to the lights/indicators etc. This will give you good reliability with the ECU and all the FI stuff - there are a lot of sensors that you need to keep in the circuit. Doing a harness from scratch for one of these models would be a big job even for someone who knows what they are doing.....

ill be using a hi flow bosch race pump, standard injectors that have been hi flowed, standard fuel rail is fine. the piston and rings actualy hold up pretty well with methanol if tuned right, i know of a few guys running R1 motors and havnt had to change pistons or rings in over 2 seasons. i thought about just keeping all the plugs and etc for the lights and just taping them up but there is stuff all room under the bonnet. the main reason i chose the kawi is you dont have to spend much to make them go good. my old car i just sold ran a A14 datsun motor with close to 15g spent on it and only made 163bhp. at this stage im just using a basic package so the car is up and running and my sponsors are happy. use will be suprised at how little needs to be done to make these motors get up and go. like all motor sport there will be alot of trial and error.

Sounds awsome. My brother lives in brisbane so when I come Up I might come out to the track and check these things out. Are these micro sprints like the 600cc guys in the states. I ownly know about them because they run the same size FCR 33mm carbs as my zxr400SP Lemco or something like that in the states make alchohol kits for em and I was thinking of getting some of there needle and seat kits for running Ethanol E85. Anyways Good luck and have fun. cheers

i race compact speedcars, kind of like a micros but with no wings, can run up to 1000cc multi valve or 1100cc 2 valve bike motors, 1300cc single cam push rod car motors, turbo or supercharged limited to 714cc and rotaries limited to only a 10a :(
darren vine at mike vine turbos will be tuning the motor.

most run a diff but that limits how much hp they can make as the drive shaft runs off where the front sprocket goes and if pushed to hard they start breaking things due to the strain on the motor trying to turn over a big diff, ill be running a chain drive setup as being a bike motor thats how they were designed to run, also lighter and get the power down better.

sounds awsome , I live near the Nowra speedway in NSW and was thinking of going and checking it out just to hear the methanol bike motors..I would love to build a hYpo methanol inline 4 bike engine. Have you got a link to any pics of your machine. cheers

go and have a look, there are a few other divisions that run bike motors from 250cc right up to 1500cc. check out www.compactspeedcar.com.au
