anyone changed fork cartridges themselves??

Postby csgup1 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 8:37 pm

Hey people!

Ive got a set of 25 mm GP suspension 'drop in' cartridges coming in from the states along with a revalved rear shock. Just wondering how hard it is to install them yourself on an 04 zx10. from the reaserch ive done, its pretty much undoing the bottom bolt and they come off and the new ones go right in , bleed the rod, new fork oil and thats it. am i on the right track?? any problems that i may run into?? i will have the bleeding tool , just wondering if i need the fork spring compressor as im taking the whole cartridge out.

Any info appreciated. :kuda:

Cheers!

hey, pretty easy to do, dont need a spring compressor,
Drop the fork from the bike, undo the top bolt, slide the slide down a little and pour oil out (make sure you measure how much so you know what to put back in)

Undo the lock nut and top section (damper adjustment, spring preload) Slide spring out.

Then you need to go in from the bottom of the fork, undo the main bolt. This bit can be tricky as sometimes the whole inner assembly turns with it, on my forks there was a square recess down inside the fork I had to put a long screw driver into to hold it from spinning.

After this remove the fork dust cover, clip and then you can pull it all apart.

use this as a guide - http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Mod ... Front_Fork

Hope that helps.

Love grog, thinking of moving to Australia as the people in the U.S. are a bunch of uptight a**holes.Do you have Jim Beam down there?
