Learner driver's car clocked 50km/h over limit: police
December 12, 2009 - 11:08AM
A teenage learner driver has had his car impounded after it was clocked travelling almost 50km/h over the speed limit in Melbourne's east.
The Nissan Sylvia was detected driving 107km/h in a 60km/h zone on the inbound section of Citylink between Toorak and Glenferrie Roads about 11pm last night.
Police allege the 18-year-old learner driver switched seats with a 17-year-old passenger as the car was pulled over.
The 17-year-old received penalty notices for unlicensed driving, false number plates and driving an unregistered car.
The driver had his car impounded for 48 hours and is expected to be charged for refusing to accompany police for a breath test, speeding, careless driving and failing to have an accompanying driver as a learner.
