Is It uncommon for a zx2r to beat a cbr250rr??

Postby scottstaj » Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:20 am

Hey guys prolly a common message, but will a zx2r beat a cbr250rr in a straight line aswell as rolling?

I have done it rolling but I am a Learner, also what percentage do you use brakes on your bike Front % / Rear % ?
Have my opens now, but as we all know, we can never stop learning.

oh two parters, fun!!

firstly i'd put them down as a much of a muchness as i've never experienced either bike, aside from perhaps sitting on one or the other that was at a shop / that a friend owned.

As for brakes, it differs depending on the situation as there is no one correct answer (note, others may have better techniques than me, but this is what i do as it seems to work for me as i don't go anywhere near hard on my bike :-) ).

Hauling it up at the lights i use a moderate handfull of front and some rear & engine braking if needs be.
Straight line emergency stopping i reef on the front until it almost waggles about and try to keep my weight on the rear to stop the rear lifting & use the rear brake at a point that is just below it locking up.
In a carpark/u-turns/maneuvering the bike around i use only the rear brake as that allows me to keep the bike under very very tight control (i.e. the engine can pull the bike along, but it's not going to just bounce along any which way).
On corners i find using the rear to bleed of speed, even up until almost the apex of the corner, if i find im too hot anyway at the apex i just cross my fingrs & dig in & hope i come out the other end unscathed.
I cant think of anything else, oh and did i get the question correct? ;-)

it should do ... kwakas are better than hondas after all ;)

but seriously i think the zx2r has slightly better power to weight than the cbr, but thats going on what others have told me and not hard facts.

Rear brake? WTF? Do bikes have read brakes???

Seriously, the only time my rear brake ever gets used, is when it's raining. Or i'm riding on ice, which, errr, hasn't happened a lot.

pritty spot on there, like you say evryone has a different approach to it, depends alot on conditions of the road, weather etc, generally I find most of my effective braking is front only, thats where the braking power is. But hey, find a nice quiet bit of road and try some braking manouvers front then rear, you will work it out.

When I owned a CBR250 (naked) a year ago I lined up a zx2r at the lights. The CBR was quicker off the mark and we were neck and neck through the gears to about 80Kmh. I think it had a lot to do with the gearing, gear changes and especially power to weight ratio. I'm around 67Kg and almost redline before gearing up. The CBR has no 6th gear so I suspect the zx2r might have better top end speed. Max speed I experienced was 130 Kmh downhill (full throtle in 5th gear). But don't underestimate the CBR250 (or any other 250). My mates on VTR1000's Firestorms had a tough time keeping up through the corners in the royal national park (Sydney) with the mighty CBR250.

My ZX2R got upto 200 without a problem.. still had lots left.
off the line was ok. but the clutch didn't have enough bite. and i was 109kg's plus gear.. so that's alot of weight for a lil 250cc machine..

Was a damn fun bike though.. just lacked the torque of the 600.. Mmm torque.. *drools*

torque? on a 599cc bike? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! no seriously, that was funny!!!
i am getting sick of the lack of power on the 6..... it'd be nice to have to "hang on" again as you punch it... altho, insurance on a 10 Vs the 6 is nite and day.... one day i'll have $$$$$
oh, the questions at hand... well, they are 250's: who cares.
and braking: like everyone else said..... and PRACTICE!!!
cheers

About 80/20 is the normal ratio. As an aside, never use your front in the bends (unless you happen to be a MotoGP rider), I like to use my rear though as it helps to control the bike and hold a tighter line (just don't lock the rear tyre).
Motorcycle's are inherently unstable...

I've still got my 2 (its for sale if anyones interested) and I have had no problems beating CBRs. I would say most of it is down to a good reaction time at the lights, don't want some cage driver hitting me up the arse after I have just weaved through the traffic to get to the front of the queue.

Took one for a test ride today... holy fark! These things go like nothing else. I'd love to have one but I did have a few grumbles about it.
1) Can't see the dash when sitting normally.
2) Vibration through the bars is shocking.
3) There is a farmer in the back blocks of siberia wondering where the gearbox for his tractor has gone.

I also wouldn't buy one without fitting a steering damper.

What did I like about it?
1) Handling and weight... oh my!
2) THAT induction roar... it eggs you on to just keep on twising the throttle.
3) Looks. Best looking bike currently on the road.

Anyone wanna buy an '01 in really good nick with lots of trick bits? Only, say... $15,990.

1) how tall are you? im just a tad under 6" and it aint that bad for me. im usually tucked down so its all good :D
2) i havent seemed to notice any excessive vibrations through the handle bars, what speed we talking? 200+?
3) the change up from 1st is quite savage, as is the change down into 1st i agree.

what price did they quote you mate?!
