A good read guys.

What I would like to know is why are some end cans so ridiculously priced. Take for example some Arrow exhausts. Can't find any solid hard links, but a mate bought a couple from the states recently that originally retailed for over AU$1000.. each. What are these Italians doing with their mufflers? Titanium?

Hi Dave .. your bloody determined with the staintune aren't ya!? :lol: :lol:

Had one on the 04 fairyblade (single undertail) Had a reasonable note but looked stupid (too long/low) Very solidly build but there is no way of repairing / repacking the muffler when it gets damaged / old.
Heavy by comparison to many other aftermarket cans IMO but very well built - won't fall to bits in a hurry ;)

There's not a lot available for the Sprint 955 that looks OK; Wolf do an undertail kit that looks a bit mickey-mouse IMHO, Two Brothers racing do an OK looking pipe, and Staintune do a good looking high-pipe that allows me to keep the pillion pegs. After scraping the standard pipe on the Great Ocean Road (Deans Marsh road, actually, and I was carrying an adult pilllion and hit a fair old whoop-de-doo :shock: ), a high pipe is looking fairly attractive. I accept that a stainless pipe with stainless steel packing is going to weigh a bit more than some super-light options, but this is after all a Sprint ST and not a 600cc super-sport. :D 2 up-touring is a greater weight issue for me than the weight difference a full bladder and lunch would produce :D . I am aware that I'm shifting the mass slightly higher, but it is supposed to be 2 kg or so lighter than the OEM one.

Spot on there mate IMO and yes the high pipe option (which was what I was refering to re custom mid pipe) looks far better. 8)

As you know the lighter weight of the aftermarket / even stainless can is not going to worry the centre of gravity too much IMO.

Got a staintune on My CBR600, awesome note too. Has done 65,000 KM and would polish up great if I could be bothered. Yes it is heavy compated to carbon cans, but I can't fault it. As the CBR is now not on the road I shortened the silencer as it was too much for the track. The baffles were in reasonable condition.

Well, the Staintune is on - need to modify a bracket where it fouls the rack, and relocate the indicators (not using the Staintune stalks, which are ugly). The sound is awesome, and tomorrow we ride! Weighs 3 kg compared to the stock system's 7kg.Image

And now she needs to be tuned, because it burps and stutters from idle to 3000, then takes off like a bat out of hell from there to the redline (which is only 9500). Sounds good, especially in the underground carpark at work. :lol:

The only real problem was the indicators. The OEM indicators were right where the high pipe goes. So, 30 minutes with a drill with a router bit, 2 LED indicators from Bikemart, 1 tube of silastic and here we are - flush mount LEDs. They are actually symmetrical; it's the camera that isn't :D

Neat looking job.

The trouble with what you have done is that they are not the Vicroads-approved distance apart (unless my eyes are deceiving me). The distance is meant to be at least 300mm apart and between 350mm and 1.5m off the ground. As such if you get picked up by the police or Vicroads you may be in the poo...

...but I guess that may never happen. But if it does here is the relevant PDF file:

Yes. I'm surprised I survived Operation Loudpipe or whatever the latest wank was. Shame it wasn't Operation Twat in a people mover going through the red lights in Camberwell, or Operation Retard in a BMW turning left from the right hand lane on Riversdale Rd :twisted: . Sorry. Rant over.

So far so good with Mr Plod. The indicators are far brighter than OEM, which might help.
