New Paint Job for my 03 Z1000

Postby bassmaniac69 » Sun Sep 13, 2009 9:42 pm

Hey all!

Well, here are some updated pics of my Z.

I needed to get the tank repaired (long story, see a previous thread) and this was the second attempt at it, so I decided to get the bike painted while I was at it, as you do! I had just sold my Hayabusa to keep the Z as I could not have two bikes in the shed, I upgraded my wife to an 08 ER6F and decided to give her (the Z, not the wife...) a new coat of paint.

After agonising for a few nights over what to do, it came down to a new complete black respray or a two tone job using either the 09 Z1000 Burnt orange or a colour close to the 09 Z750 candy lime. I loved the Z in black (see previous pic) but when the painter hurried me up to decide I went with the green, and I am quite happy with the results. The other factor was that I just had all of the side bits painted in stock 03 Z1000 black/sparkle when the tank was fixed the first time so it seemed a waste to re do these bits again!

I still like a Z in black like mine was before, but I thought something different to all of the other black Zeds (and black bikes in general) would be good!

I did think of white and black for a few seconds but I thought that one white/black Zed on this forum was enough :D

The colour is a modified Holden Atomic Green (this has more gold pearl through it all). The pics don't pick up the gold and how "shiny" it all is - I'm not that good a photographer! IT looks quite striking and the contrast between the green and black looks pretty schmick, at least I think so!!

The wheels will come next, more than likely with the same green or black but still with the polished rims. I also plan to change the titanium yoshis for carbon pipes, the levers to black or gold Pazzos, black brake lines, black pegs and I might get the corbin recovered in all black (lose the red piping). The gold of the forks and the handlebars match the green well, so they will stay. From there? Not sure but as I'm going to keep the Z for a while longer now then I guess there's a few more things on my list!

Note in the pics the front guard in green is currently on the bike, I will put my carbon unit back on to balance out the black look soon. The painter just wants me to take it around to show him how it looks, so it's on for the next few days at least.

Cheers!

Sorry for the small pics, it's either these ones or too big as I am using two different hosting sites at the moment! Links below are to bigger, better pics!

Looks good bud but I see you have one of those jousting dampers that Hoffy used to have
Looks quite flat in that green??? Got much gloss to it?
Gonna change the red wheels?

Enjoy, pics of my Z to follow in a couple of weeks when I have a better backdrop than the garage wall :D :D :D

Nope, not the same bike - the paints only 3 days old! One of our members here had a Z750 in a similar colour, not as sparkly as this one !

The Jousting stick comes in handy while fighting of the hordes of tin tops and scooters on the way home from work! :D

Honestly, I don't ride the bike hard enough to warrant it, but it was there when I bought it and gets a lot of "what is that" comments, so it's stayed!

As for the paint, it is quite glossy. The pics do look flatter than it is. It's not a super gloss, more mid way but the gold pearl really shines in the right light! I'll try and take some better pics this weekend!

And I'm looking forward to seeing your bike Damon, it's been a long time coming, hey??

So far no stickers/badges. I've always liked my bikes/cars etc without badges, name tags etc. Not sure why, keeps people guessing I reckon! I was thinking of maybe some air brush work (nothing major) or a nice white stripe off set down the bike. At the moment though I'll keep it how it is. I will have a tank bang on there a lot of the time to carry stuff to and from work, and that has Z1000 on it, so there is some identification at least!

And hey PC, long time no speak! I hope all is well!
