Moveable Lisence plates

Postby DjDante » Sun Mar 06, 2005 9:42 pm

Lets say that someone wanted a lisence plate that could be moved or conceiled with the flick of a switch for the sake of... um.. bike shows. Where can you get these devices? I have heard of them, but for the life of my, I really can't find anything online.

Anyone have any ideas?

There was a flipper system going around in England a few years ago. I just had a brief look, but found nothing. Might be worth a more detailed look.

whats with the cloak and secrecy its not illegal to talk about, or even have it installed on the bike! only illegal once its used to get away from a speeding photo!

this site sell them cheap, from what i've been told the ones avail from Melb go for just over $500

The ones I have seen on eBay use a LCD panel that goes over your number plate.
At the flick of a switch, the whole plate turns black.
The problem with the LCD type, is that in direct sunlight the panels heat up and turn black of thier own accord (Heat has the same effect as an electrical current).

Personally I think these devices are quite clever, even if it is illegal to have them in operation. Although I think its probably better to have a radar detector installed instead.

yeah it would just be a solanoid, a switch, a fuse and some piano hinge.

now the trick would be to make one that flips when it senses a radar...

ignore that last bit jase... :)

yeah but the latency of the system may defeat the purpose.

Here is the the other one.
How much sunlight would turn it black? I don't want to get busted for concealing because its simply a hot day. Calculators don't do that....

The one that flips up looks like a possible good choice, as it won't discolour with light, and its hiding capabilities are more concealed. But the one the just blackens probably looks much cooler when in action...

I reckon if you were to use such things, the flipping one would be better.
its less obvious that anythings been changed.

But of course this is only for when you are showing the bike off right...
