Changing bike colour

For those of you who havn't seen the ride I just purchased, it is a 1998 zx9r which has been painted with a gunmetal acrylic paint. The job does not look too shocking, but I really want a shiny bike, and I can get the whole bike respraid for $400 given that I do all the preparation myself.

Do you guys think that I should paint the bike a typical kawasaki colour for resale? Or do you think that if I have a really swanky looking candy apple red paint job, that I should not have too much trouble selling it?

I would say what is it you want from it? if you are going to sell it leave it alone and give it a cut n polish, if not and since you seem to like super shiny go for a custom paint job, i like that paint that changes color in different light whatever it is called.

The resale wont be any worse than it is now in a non standard colour, so get what you like.

If ya gunna have chrome all over the bike, which I think is ok, but plz plz plz dont fark up the paint job. Consider this..

the first thing ppl think if it aint original color is that it has been dropped.. there that said...

non original paint should be .... if ya gunna keep it - paint it the way ya want it... if ya gunna sell it one day - paint it so it would be appreciated to a reasonable mass of ppl.

cos ya bike aint that old, ppl think the worst. I have an old bike and re-sprays are common, but, some and some would say lots of bike lovers like a bike to be if not original factory paint but original as in different to everyone elses ....

Whales had a zx12 there for a little while in the harlequin. it just didn't look right.. it looks good on cars but maybe cause bikes are smaller it just didn't suit.

my cbr 250 was paiinted a weird colour and it made it harder to sell, most people wanted it too look like a cbr 250 not something else so if resale is your thing dont go the candy apple red but as they say if you want to keep it suit yourself so long as you can live with it.

I know the 250 would have gone faster if it was red and black or yellow and black but in a past life some muppet painted it some other colour and i couldnt be bothered repainting it.

But am I wrong in thinking that red or jet black with a nice shiny finish are going to be hard colours to sell? It is not like a weird colour.. I don't want harlequin because that just doesn't suit motorbikes in my mind.

It is very obvious this bike has not had a drop, anyone who knows anything at this bike can look for the telltale signs. The frame is straight, there are no problems.

Yeah I want the bike a colour that I consider to be good on the bike. I thought red would be a pretty safe colour, and even though it is not a stock colour, many people are happy to have a red bike (red goes faster after all).

Can't polish teh frame, because the costs are just adding up, there are too many other things I want to do to the bike, to have to spend 1500 to have a bike I need to polish every week or two. Nickel plating is going to end up being about 2k, and that money can be much better spent.

I am going to just polish teh rims myself.

I was wanting to paint the frame black with the red colour fairing, but problem is, i cant paint teh frame without pulling the bike apart can I?

It costs $385 to disassemble the bike and put it back together again.

I think bikes and riding are all about your passions....go with the heart and bling the sucker up......worry about re sale when and if

For $385 you can do it yourself, I don't think you need to pull it totally apart, just far enough to be able to reach all the frame with the spray gun unless you are 2Pacing it and need to put it in the oven. Just mask her up!
Besides, there is no better way to learn about your bike if you do it yourself.

The bike will be fairingless while everything gets sprayed. And if I spray the frame it will not be 2pack paint, it will jsut be a mat black finish. I have never looked at a 9R without its clothes on, I just assumed it was impossible to do without removing absolutely everything...

fuk me, its only 400 bux for a respray! not like its 5k for a full respray on a car! hehehehe
