How loud is too loud?

Postby DjDante » Sat Feb 26, 2005 1:32 am

As some of you may know, I just purshased a ZX9R to replace my ZZR250.

Of the many things I love about this bike, the sound of the Roo Racing exhaust ranks very high.

I am a little bit worried about being defected for it. I consider an exhuast to also be a safety factor, as it lets the cages know where I am because it would seem they spend a lot of time not noticing my presence.

How strict are the police on motorbike exhuasts? Does anyone know if Roo Racing exhausts are within the limit?

The NSW guys would be able to answer this best but from what i have read you will need it tested and get one of those kits(plate fitted) cause i am sure when the coppers here you(bike with loud exhaust) they will be all over you like a fat kid on a smartie ..........nice fine too. :(

there is no way your exhaust would pass the STUPID exhaust laws they have brought in. you may be able to get a baffle to fit in the exit hole to quieten it down a little.

and stay away from the old road, that seems to be the place the noise testers hang out.

So all the bikes out there with loudish exhuasts are just taking the risk? I can't really afford to get whacked with a fine, but I really love the exhaust note too :(

Is a baffle easy to put on/remove? I could always just put it on whenever I was going somewhere that cops were likely to hang out, such as the old road on the 20th of march.

You really think I would get away with playing ignorance?

I want to keep the exhaust how it is, and jsut put a baffle on when I go to events where cops are likely to hide out.

get away with it? uhm fat chance.

FFS from past accounts they have tried to screw over people that had STOCK exhausts that were under the limit. they are going to give you a reaming if you are certainly over.

I agree, get the spud, be cautious.
That being said i've never been pulled over for a test

just b careful with the twist of the wrist m8, tho i can't comment on down south, but up here they don't seem 2 worry to much. had the plod follow me from beaudesert rd 2 forest lake this arvo (bout 7 klm's) & didn't pull me up, & considering the outlet of my can is 65mm & u can see str8 into the thing it's pretty easy 2 work out it aint standard, but never had a drama. I did import a standard can from the usa for $80 just in case tho

The cops and EPA have actually stopped noise testing at the moment, so all they're really booking people for is the lack of an ADR compliance sticker on aftermarket cans.

If you know someone with an engraver, these can be picked up at MCA's for $20, and filled out wityh the appropriate info.

What worries me is a comment I saw recently that said the EPA can pick you up even if you are registered and live in another state and are just riding through NSW

I have to go through NSW to get everywhere!
